Can i claim backdated mid-day meal allowance?

Well no cheque so far, just another letter confirming the change in my tax code … fingers still crossed for a possible cheque, has anybody else had any joy with this ? …

I have just banked a cheque for just shy of £500
It was for 2011-12 mileage to and from work, on agency, PAYE, but only going to one place.
I didn’t claim for meal allowances because it would have taken the claim over £2500 and I would have had to do a self assessment form instead of the p87 and I couldn’t be bothered. :unamused:

Remember if you get your tax code changed to keep a check on everything you claim for because you could end up oweing them. I keep my code the same and claim each year because if say you claim 50 miles a day but the agency send you somewhere nearer you get less back

Cheque received for £344.02
Could only claim rebate at the standard rate though as I didn’t have receipts…

Had an extra £280 in my pay on Friday due to a tax rebate , can’t understand why more day drivers are not taking thus up …

Gave this a try about 3 weeks ago, what is there to lose, and today get a revised tax coding from Tax Office with an additional tax free £470 for job expenses. At the same time they have added £60 for flat rate job expenses (uniform) without being asked lol. Now hopefully may even get a cheque for the last few years. Happy days.

And the day later a nice cheque for nearly £400. Thanks to the original posters.

Hi, I’ve had a response from my local tax office telling me I can claim the tax back on £2 a day for meal allowance, without having to provide receipts. However if I want to go ahead and claim the £5 per day allowance (who wouldn’t!?) then I have to provide receipts. I’m trying to claim for this year and the previous 4 years (maximum allowed). So I phoned them today to clarify how many receipts are required, explaining I have only just discovered this benefit, and that I hadn’t kept all receipts. I haven’t kept any as it so happens  The lady on the other end wasn’t too sure and suggested I send in what I had with an acompanying letter.
So, how many of you that have claimed the £5 a day allowance have provided just say a couple of weeks worth of receipts and been successful? That’s what I’m hoping to do.

Cheers in advance.

And after my cheque for £400, got my monthly salary today with an extra £250 in it for this years tax refund. Happy bunny.

Bump

Usually because most of the hmrc staff think that form p87 is only for mileage allowance.
photocopy and highlight the relevent part of the booklet that comes with the form, then staple it to your application.

new tax code 1007 and 487 quid back ,thankyou very much :sunglasses:
