Can i claim backdated mid-day meal allowance?

How does this work if you’ve had more than 1 job in the last 5years?. Can you make 1 claim for a rebate or do you need to cain individually for each workplace at their relevant tax office?.

Cheers

edit,
just checked my p60, that also comes from the northeast metropolitan. I sent my letter to Liverpool.

Send letters to the Liverpool address , mark it with repayments claim so it goes straight to the relevant department, you need a separate claim for each tax year

Plenty to be had if you know where to look & how to apply , the mid day meal allowance goes upto £5 a day if your away from base for more than 5 hours …

Well i received a reply and i cant make head nor tail of it. They have changed my tax code from 810L to 857L and said my job expenses are £470 per year and this code will remain until i tell them otherwise. So i pay £470 less tax a year. Which is about 30 quid pay rise per month?

But there is no cheque for backdated claims i thought i would have got a cheque  it says they will check with my employer ‘‘If you have, you will either pay less tax for a while or they will make you a refund’’

Why would my company make the refund and not hmrc??

It doesnt mean you pay £470 less tax, it means you can earn an extra £470 a year tax free.
So you should get back about £30?

''Your personal allowance : £8105
Job expenses: £470

A tax free amount of £8575’’

This is whats on the letter so over the year i pay £470 less tax than i do now isnt that like a 30/40 quid a month pay rise?

No - it means that you can now earn £8575 before you start paying tax. You will be 470 x 20p = £94 a year better off. That’s £7.83 a month or £1.80 a week.

For this kind of amount it will be paid back by PAYE via your wage slip

This makes no sense to me, so my job expenses are £470 per year but i’ll only be £94 better off a year. Santa you are bringing me no joy and its your job to bring joy. So what happens to the other £376 does the government con you out it?

I just thought it would be 470 less tax to pay a year so divide by 12 months would be 40 quid extra per month. Davy cameroon you sir are a dirty bastart

Because your tax code as gone up you don’t pay tax on that £470 not get £470

People make the same mistake with milage allowances. Some agencies sell it as you are getting 40p a mile to drive to work but its not, its offsetting against your tax so is worth about 8p a mile.

Go to wonder Merc how long you have been working for a living paying taxes?

God forbid you never understand anything :unamused:

Always one in every thread to find a dig when there is no need. Now i know why stobarts pay out a meal allowance because you get bumped when hmrc do it through tax codes and earnings before tax.

Well its 94quid in my bin so shouldn’t complain, maybe more if they back date  hope other people claim whats due to them!

God forbid you never understand anything

believe me there are lots of things I don’t understand, but I learnt how to understand my wages a long long time ago.

I work like a donkey so the government can take their cut to pay for bankers to keep eating their cucumber sandwiches thats about all i understand.

I pay 280quid a month into my final salary pension with avc’s payments aswell? I dont have a clue about that either fancy being my financial advisor

No merc I have enough problems sorting out my own pension with the latest changes coming through in December.
I am sorry if I ruffled your feathers it wasn’t my intention, I was trying to find out if you are a young person who has only been working for a few years, in which case I could understand you not being aware of basic tax rules but I honestly thought that anyone who has been paying tax for a few years would know the difference between tax paid and tax allowances.

Merc, if its any consolation I get £2 a week from my employer.

52 weeks minus 5 weeks holiday= 47 weeks.

47 x £2 = £94
