Can employer dictate when you take breaks?

Comes around goes around.
I’ll skip a meal once in a while to make a timed delivery, but i do my share of tossing off aswell.

I totally understand that Early riser, and I understand that job security is a comfortable feeling. Obviously everyone’s circumstances differ and as such you have to do what is right for you. However, the fact that you have even brought this up tells me that you are not comfortable with it and my opinion is that this is just the thin end of the wedge! We both know that what they are asking is technically illegal, but tbh if the job offered other perks I may just go along with it, not happily, but if there was something in it for me I would.

The crux of the matter is though that this is obviously jarring with you and I reckon that if you allow it to continue then eventually you’ll actually hate going to work, and that my friend is the quick way to stress related illness.

Good luck though whichever way it works out.

The Sarge:
I sort of agree that if you HAVE to take a kip during the day, every day, then this might not be the job for you. Not you personally, but the “you” that comes with “them”

Nah, you’re probably right mate, I’m at the stage now where I’ve kinda got used to pulling over for a 10 to 15 min kip, so maybe I am in the wrong job after all, who knows.
I laugh at these heroes who simply lurrrve their 15 hour days, and reduced rests, and boast that they only need a couple of hours sleep :unamused: , good luck to them couldn’t give a ■■■■, where as if I’m drowsy I sleep end of, timed delivery or otherwise, and not ashamed in the slightest to admit it.
Nothing to prove whatsoever, and not interesred in trying to impress.

I sometimes wonder why I even come on here, with all the abuse I get.
I’m just going to close my frilly curtains, tie back my tassles, and shut myself in, …and cry.
I hope you are all proud of yourselves.

Feel bad now man…

Could be worse I suppose. Could be back on agency.

At least until on of the zb’s goes through the central reservation of the M25 at 7 am causing carnage and gridlock. :imp: :unamused:

Most simple solution to the OP is simply move your vehicle 1 foot every 14 mins

If a driver can’t get through a standard working day without having a sleep in the middle then something is wrong somewhere.

The Sarge:
Beat me to it, Luke.

Seriously!!
Have you 2 ever actually done this job.

Only for about twentyfive years. Luke?

Professional driver for 18 years in December. Clearly I’m not very experienced

Carryfast:

robroy:
Yeh ok, but you’ve just agreed with Luke saying there is something wrong with a driver who has to stop for a sleep during a working day.

But to be fair Luke doesn’t seem to have ever worked as a council driver under domestic regs.He only knows ze German EU based work ethic. :smiling_imp:

Ah yes, the famously over worked council workers

If the break is unpaid then there is absolutely no way my tacho would be on break in order to get ‘a quick 15’ or 30 minutes in when waiting for a few minutes for an unloading spot, while the boss gets a freebie, so that I can chase around to get x plus one deliveries done rather than just x. Then finding myself in the position that I have to bolt my food (or more likely eat it while driving is what this boss really wants) because I am left with a shorter period for r&r. As Carryfast says other workers are not subjected to this kind of treatment. The man deserves a physical education.
