Sorry but dont posses a skirt
as have short fat hairy legs
I’ve got a CE licence but drive rigids because I’m inexperienced and just a boy trapped in a very handsome man’s body. I look down on all the artic drivers that are getting paid the same as me but have to mess about in the rain winding trailer legs up.

i look down on all rigid drivers , isnt that what we should do ? im sure it is …appart from DENIS F that is hes fabulous …
Nice save. Have one of your Pot Noodles.
that’s worth 2 pot noodles
ps sometimes I pretend to be a real trucker by driving in front of a trailer
here you go sir have an apple …
I’ve believe its to do with the physical size and number of axles also.
When I’m in a 6x2 FH, XF, Actros or Scania Topliner pulling a tri axle trailer / double decker, I feel the respect off others. Go for an overtake of a veh in lane 1, glance in the offside mirror, there’s a wagon there in lane 2 but he’s pre-empt this… As soon as he’s seen your head turn he’s flashing and letting you out in front of him.
Do this in a 4x2 FM pulling a 8.2m trailer with single axle rear steer? Pffft… Might as well be driving a car with a bumper sticker saying TRUCKERS ARE ■■■■■■■

There fixed quote
robinhood_1984:
I really hope that one day I can be a professional LGV1 operative just like you! How wonderful it must be to sit up in your big lorry and be so professional and aloof that basic manners and courtesy are below you.
I’m really impressed at your concern for other road users as well, you are a shining example to our industry, have you ever thought about starting in the Eddie Stobart documentaries?Meanwhile back in the real world I’ll continue to show some respect to my fellow drivers both sides of the Atlantic and flash them in, not as a way of letting them know their trailer is past my unit, but letting them know that they’re far enough past for me to be comfortable with them pulling in. Its really not that impressive to me when some cocky fellow pulls in one metre infront of my windscreen. Certainly it demonstrates that he has an exceptional grasp on just how long his truck is, but that doesn’t do me much good when I can’t see a thing except his back doors and any potential problem in front of him.
Manners cost nothing.
Having recently sat my theory test and knowing not a lot about lorrys before revision i was surprised to find that the correct answer to ‘flashing in’ is not to do it, so your use of the word ‘respect’ is somewhat in conflict.
IIRC in the Highway code it does say about flashing head light = to let other road users know you are there
How you wish to this use this is of course up to you

there’s a difference between the HC and real life

ill remember that when im doing my 1 drop of the day under a nice dry canopy!
i flash in anything 7.5t or over or anything that looks uncertain, caravans, trailers, some van drivers, its just manners at the end of the day, and its nice to be flashed in sometimes when the speed differential is fairly small between yourself and the person on the inside lane.

Do you now find that you know much about lorries, after revision?

I would know enough to strip one down to its conrods and put it back together, and you?

So you went from not knowing a lot about lorries before revision for your theory, to knowing how to strip a motor down to the conrods. Did you learn all that on your theory or are you just contradicting your self?

I see your origional post as being fairly antagonistic so will reply in a certain way, do you want to carry on being an arse? if so i will raise it up a few levels.
I always thought the flashy thing was common courtesy, but there seems to be a distinct lack of that everywhere these days.
Perhaps i’m just getting old.

Get a few years under your belt son, then you will be qualified to come on here and make an arse of yourself…like we do
And as for your other post theory often contradicts real life.

I have experience of owning and operating and designing some of the largest farm machinery to go on the roads, hauling an artic trailer around the country would be a piece of p— in relation to what i am used to driving, although as regards flashing of lights and not gesticulating to people to cross on a pelican crossing and the such i was naive.

Oh right, I under estimated your vast knowledge, social standing, and may I say, far superior to mine, exceptional driving ability, would you care to share with us lowly types, some of your designs in the world of agriculture, that some of us inferior skilled drivers may have heard about, or maybe even seen.
