Calling all articulated wagon Drivers: Are you sizeist?

I’m on wagon and drag three days a week and rigid alone for another two.
Obviously road presence is greater when pulling the trailer and bizarrely I feel a bit more of a rootin tootin trucker when pullin it!
Artic drivers are seemingly more inclined to flash in when pulling the trailer. Question is - is this fair do’s?
The trailer adds about another 20 odd foot.
It’s noticeable how many Class one drivers can’t be bothered flashing when in the rigid alone.
Don’t get me wrong - id be happy without the flash (always pull in when I and I alone deem to have created an adequate space).
It just seems that there’s an unspoken chain of supremacy up and down our nations roads - and that some at the top of their professional tree look down on others (an old monty python sketch comes to mind!)

Of course…rigid drivers are not proper truckers…

That was The Week That Was, or TW3 Sketch I think. John Cleese and the Two Ronnies, very clever Sketch.

No, I am an equal opportunity non flasher, I don’t flash anyone.

The ‘I know my place’ sketch, it’s quality.

Fantastic! Enjoyed watching that. Ta.

I drive an artic and I,ve tried to convince the wife for years that size doesn,t matter

drive anything from 7.5 tonner to artic, flash in artics and rigids but rarely 7.5s cos they can judge where the back is easily enough

funny that i told the other half “its not quanity its quality”

No offence intended to anybody but the only time i flash someone is if they have pulled into lane 2 to let me on, i flash for no other reason whatsoever. I will double my indicator to left in appreciation of a flash i get but i assure you i do not need it

Personally, I don’t flash anyone in. IMHO, if they need it, then they shouldn’t be driving and vice versa, neither should I if I needed it!

If you can’t judge the size of your vehicle (basic stuff) then you need to hang up your keys…besides, it can also distract fellow road users unnecessarily.

i look down on all rigid drivers , isnt that what we should do ? im sure it is … :sunglasses:

appart from DENIS F that is hes fabulous …

I couldn’t give a ■■■■ what other people do or drive on the road. I ignore everyone.

funnily enough i’ve noticed that if ive got the drawbar behing the scanny i get flashed in more on the motorways than when I run solo

You’re not imagining it, I used to drive scruffy 13 tonners and fairly tidy 18 tonners. The small wheeled jumped up puddle jumpers were invisible to all and sundry, the 18 tonners would get some occasional flash from another rigid. Moving on I’ve had a number of 6 & 8 wheelers deffo more noticeable especially when loaded. When I have an occasional jaunt in an artic I need sunglasses.

I really hope that one day I can be a professional LGV1 operative just like you! How wonderful it must be to sit up in your big lorry and be so professional and aloof that basic manners and courtesy are below you.
I’m really impressed at your concern for other road users as well, you are a shining example to our industry, have you ever thought about starting in the Eddie Stobart documentaries?

Meanwhile back in the real world I’ll continue to show some respect to my fellow drivers both sides of the Atlantic and flash them in, not as a way of letting them know their trailer is past my unit, but letting them know that they’re far enough past for me to be comfortable with them pulling in. Its really not that impressive to me when some cocky fellow pulls in one metre infront of my windscreen. Certainly it demonstrates that he has an exceptional grasp on just how long his truck is, but that doesn’t do me much good when I can’t see a thing except his back doors and any potential problem in front of him.

Manners cost nothing.
