RobRob:
Meanwhile back in the real world I’ll continue to show some respect to my fellow drivers both sides of the Atlantic and flash them in, not as a way of letting them know their trailer is past my unit, but letting them know that they’re far enough past for me to be comfortable with them pulling in. Its really not that impressive to me when some cocky fellow pulls in one metre infront of my windscreen. Certainly it demonstrates that he has an exceptional grasp on just how long his truck is, but that doesn’t do me much good when I can’t see a thing except his back doors and any potential problem in front of him.
Manners cost nothing.
Yep, good point well made.
And I flash most, but there is a lot who want to get over quicker than I feel comfortable with, as RB 1984 says.
…I look down on artic drivers coz i’m a rarer breed
Talking off which, when i used to ocasionaly drag a float about, it seemed all other livestock drivers would flash when passing, like an exclusive club
Now I’m a box jockey i get ignoered even by some drivers from the same company
hiabman:
I’m on wagon and drag three days a week and rigid alone for another two.
It just seems that there’s an unspoken chain of supremacy up and down our nations roads - and that some at the top of their professional tree look down on others (an old monty python sketch comes to mind!)
Err, excuse me, this is TRUCK net, not puddlejumpernet, how dare a lowly rigid driver post on here, I don’t care if you have a trailer on three days a week, that’s just trying to be something you’re not
Me I don’t care one way or the other, I used to hate driving rigids, now I’d drive an ■■■■■■ Van for the right money, I know I can drive a big lorry, I’m not going to get too bothered about it if some unwashed poorly educated neanderthal looks down at me through his window that’s obscured by frilly curtains
Oh and I’d flash you in…if you left enough space where I could reach for the stalk before you came in

Ah, so that’s everyone seems to flash me! I wondered what’s the point, especialy that at 75 mph I am far forward them before they wake up and flash me. But they still feel obligation to do it, because as a sprinter driver I am superior
joking aside, id flash in a single artic and upwards anytime, but as for rigids id only flahs them in in poor visibilty, rain or fog, they should be able to manage otherwise
In my humble opinion, I think driving rigids demand more respect than driving artic’s, I got put on a 16 ton rigid once for 1 x day whilst mine was in for a major service to do local and I nearly had a nervous breakdown, it was 10 times harder than an artic to drive, every time you tuned a corner the back swang out, I was a danger to shipping ! just horrible
I flash in from 7.5 t and upwards and I certainly don’t look down on anyone driving something smaller, nowadays with people losing jobs there’s experienced drivers out there driving little wagons because they’ve lost their once great job.
A bloke I know was a European tramper for 30 yrs now drives a 7.5 tonner so you never know who’s who by looking at what they drive.
RobRob:
Personally, I don’t flash anyone in. IMHO, if they need it, then they shouldn’t be driving and vice versa, neither should I if I needed it!
If you can’t judge the size of your vehicle (basic stuff) then you need to hang up your keys…besides, it can also distract fellow road users unnecessarily.
I really hope that one day I can be a professional LGV1 operative just like you! How wonderful it must be to sit up in your big lorry and be so professional and aloof that basic manners and courtesy are below you.
I’m really impressed at your concern for other road users as well, you are a shining example to our industry, have you ever thought about starting in the Eddie Stobart documentaries?

+1
I couldn,t agree more ,these smartarse bellends who cut in on you because they think they are too bloody clever to wait for a flash (which is ironic as they have just proved that they aint )bring out the worse in me ■■■■ boiling moments
What a strange post.I have a licence to drive artics , tankers and all sorts but I drive an 8x4 tipper becasue I want to earn as much as I can for doing as little as I can.
