DickyNick:
I agree and wouldn’t report someone for some minor stuff, but if it’s dangerous I would and have. I did once report a truck driver to his company and sent them footage because he was almost touching my back bumper and would have crushed me if I’d stopped. Does that make me sad and have nothing better to do? If it does fine. Do I care if he lost his job? Well actually no not really because if he’s going that close up behind a car to be a bully to a point where it’s dangerous then he shouldn’t be driving a truck so if He got sacked then I’ve done my bit and potentially saved someone from being killed by him in the future. It has to be dangerous for me to take action, I’m not out to send in dash cam footage for simple mistakes or minor disregard for the Highway Code. But if someone’s driving really does qualify as dangerous then yes I think if we’ve got evidence of it we should all be taking steps to get them banned of our roads. Before someone tells me that yeah but people make mistakes, no to qualify as dangerous in law the standard of the driving goes way way way beyond what could be seen as a mistake. So in my case above with that driver behind me, if he’d made a mistake and backed off then fine, no problem. If he’d made a mistake and backed off within about 10 seconds after realising he was too close then fine. But when he’s that close for about 2 miles when I’m doing just over the speed limit (which was temporary road works speed limit) then that’s no mistake anymore. That’s dangerous and him having a total disregard for Highway Code (following distance) and disregard for the safety of any occupants of that car.
Oh go on then, I’ll bite a bit, call it a nibble.
So…
1: You have a rear facing dash cam, I assume this is how you have this footage of a truck right on your bumper. Owing a rear facing camera marks you out as someone who looks for, and makes, situations. A premier league DCW
2: I’ve found it quite rare to find trucks up the bumpers of cars in lane 1 of motorway roadworks as they still have lane 2, that’s when the tailgating takes place and it’s gnerally because the numpty in lane 2 has broken the law by not returning to an empty lane 1, was this you? Were you sat in lane 2 being a road commander whilst lane 1 was empty. Only asking a question that begs from your dramatic description. If of course you were on a dual then a different matter, but you seem conveniently vague in your story when it comes to times and places…
3: you mention footage, well…as you’ve not involved the police and therefore can to effect any legal proceedings…post it up.
Let’s see this awful driving that was so bad you want to cry on the Internet, bad enough to ring the company but not call the police, why not…another poster who seems intent on doing down the drivers and the industry…■■■■■■■ yawn…
4: If it’s really there and it’s all as bad as it seems then why not move to the lane on the right and let him carry on? I remember a chap heading out of Colne on the M65 when they had miles of restrictions in and it was 2 lanes simply indicating right and moving to the right as he was happy doing 40 and didn’t want to hold me up doing 50. I was a bit wary at first but he gave a couple of quick left flashes so I went past and he moved in behind me and gave me a quick flash so I gave it some indicator and carried on.
I’m guessing though that you just sat there, carrying on for, what was it, 2 miles being the road captain…”I’m not doing anything wrong dear so I’m staying here, let’s block him and see how he likes it, I’m sure it won’t hurt too much when he hits us, but I’ll be in the right so that will show him”…
Time for a flounce kid…
