If i was doing fridges,i would not sleep thinking some chap turns it off in the night, with the load ruined.
I always used to turn my fridge off at night and I’ve never once had a load rejected for being out of temperature range.

I came off the road to earn above £350 p/w take home as without load bonus I was around the £330 mark.
Good luck Harry.
A lOt of them now have some kind of thing where you can see the history of the entire journey so I suppouse even if it is ok when you get there it would be a case they reject the load if it had been out of range at any time in the journey.

Come to think of it at Lincoln Farm, they do not allow them and charge them for one space on the road by the front gate.
Which is a ■■■■ take and the reason I will never use that dump as long as I have a hole in my ■■■…and that bible crap they have in there?? ■■■■■■ bible bashers!!!

same here when running a genset on a box.
just curious harry, hopefully all goes well with your venture, and a few years down the line you have a few motors on your fleet.
judging by your posts, i’d assume you’d be a fair gaffer, who would pay his drivers the right wage, in return for them doing the right job. i’d assume if you could find the right spec when buying a motor, you’d also make sure it had a fridge aswell.
what happens if you do get to employ drivers, and they start wanting to add bits and bobs to your trucks, light bars and the like, will you let them? encourage them? or say no?
i suppose the kind of haulage your doing will play a part.
i hope your venture goes well, good luck.
i’d imagine you’ve seen the certain niche markets that are out there once your all up and running.

Essentially, I wouldn’t pay someone less than I would expect to earn myself, and I wouldn’t send someone out in a truck that I wouldn’t be happy to be away in all week myself. I would never dream of sending someone away all week without a manufacturer-fitted cab fridge.
I’ve got no plans at present to expand beyond the one vehicle but if I ever did then I would be quite happy for any employee to post on TruckNet about what I was like to work for.
ha,ha, nice 1
my old man bless his cotton socks told me once " too know what a company,s like to work for … if the car park is full of old knackers then forget them…" didnt really work for me as i still drive a old banger i brought 15 yrs ago as long as it starts N the wipers work im happy… rolmao…
Thetaff,i know what you mean about Lincoln Farm,i got my wagon blessed with Holy water one night, the crucifix that lights up on the roof is a bit creepy.

Not a good idea, you won’t get away with that with ice cream, fresh fish/meat or soft fruits. I’m sure there are many that have got away with it, but it is not the right thing to do, things have to be a specific temperature for good reason
i dont mind if its running constantly its when it turns on when ive just settled i ■■■■ myself then cant get back to sleep
If your hauling a reefer load then presumably someone has payed for the freight to be temperature controlled while it is in the trailer.
I I love it when drivers imagine that means at their own discretion depending on their sleeping habits.

Spot on. If someone can’t sleep with a fridge on I can’t understand for the life of me why they’d stay on fridge work.
OVLOV JAY:
I think there’s a little bit of bitter jealousy from the ones who say blings for idiots etc. They would love a truck like that, but can’t afford the stuff and can’t be bothered to wash it. A bit like everyone hates tesco drivers, in reality we’re all jealous of their money but don’t want to work the anti social hrs. Each to their own, live and let live
I can afford bling, but don’t want it, so no jealousy from me. Personally I think bling makes wagons look tacky.
Having nice things in/on your truck don’t make you cab happy.
If I had the choice i would pick the truck that made my job/life easiest.
Light bar, nice paint job, polished alloy wheels, make it look nice and COULD make the driver feel more happier.
Fridge, microwave, coffee makers, make life/work better and SAFE you money.
Same could be said about taking a lower wage for a better truck.
i.e
scania low roof 420 on general haulage away all week.
or
scania topline 420 on general haulage away all week for 0.50p a hour less.
0.50p X say 60 hours is £30. - TAX = £20.40
Is it worth it to go for the small cab and have no room or get alittle bit less money and have room to move on your time off. Standing up to get dressed and room to keep all your stuff.

FFS Are you for real? Why the hell should a driver take a wage cut to help subsidise a better spec motor for his boss
, if he had any consideration for his driver he would buy the right motor for the job in the first place, and at the same time get a better residual value on trade in. No wonder this job has rapidly turned to crap if drivers are suggesting and willing to do things like this

I am for real. I never said a drive SHOULD take a cut in wage. Better motors help the drive life on the road. A boss with “consideration” for his drivers
The right truck for the job in one persons eyes may not be the right truck for the job in someone else eyes. Alot of trucks are on hire over 3-5 years so they take whatever is the CHEAPEST not what the drive likes. cab high or cab specification is a luxury none has the RIGHT to any of it.
The job maybe crap because so many driver think they should have this or that truck and get paid ■■■ and anything else is beneath them.
I hate the truck I drive but the money is good but thats my choice to do this. But I’ve took jobs getting paid alittle less for better quality of life. That was my choice just like its your choice not to do this.

+1
My mind returns to the late 80’s when I worked for Swifts, I drove an old F10 but kept it very clean, in those days Swifts promised to pay 10% above all other hauliers and mostly kept to their word.
I was heading up the A1 and nearing the M62 to go to Castleford depot and listening to two blokes from Linconshire talking on a high channel about trucks and pay etc one of them told the other “My boss offered me a pay raise or a new F10, I took the new F10 of course”
I remember thinking what a complete plonker he was.
It’s the same the world over, I know drivers who polish their rims and chrome and would rather do that ta go home for the night or they will earn less money to keep their truck gleeming.

So you dont think drivers should stand for what they want?? A comprimise could be made with the boss as to the type and spec of the cab. After driving car transporters for a spell I will not spend all week away in a cab I cant stand up in now. I have worked for companies who have units in on demo and ask for the drivers input from there not only go on fuel and rates after all if the driver is happy then they are more likely to retain the said driver
