C.M.Downton

Now don’t rush lads,Downtown wants a shunter at Tilbury.06.00 to 1800,but must be flexible.Gross £450 a week,is that not minimum wage. It’s advertised on a internet site.Once again I cannot write how I feel about these ( we all know what there title is) PEOPLE.

Do you own a calculator?

Don’t know what minimum wage exactly is,told it changes April 2016.But considering how much someone has to personally invest to obtain a class one licence, offering £7.50p per hour at Tibury docks is an insult

Some mug will do it. It was the same when they advertised for a shunter at Leeds last year: £8 per hour all hours worked, no overtime!! Unbelievable! Forkies get paid something similar these days with considerably less responsibility.

Minimum wage will be £7.20 in April.

If the job is 4 on 4 off, 48 hour week = £9.37 ph. with breaks paid.
If the job is 5 days, then it’s 60 hour week, less 1 hour a day breaks, 55 hour week = £8.18 ph.

Not a great wage, but you’re only shunting trailers in a yard, plenty of time to read facebook and get a hot brew. Not having to crap in a layby and of course you can feel superior and shout at outside drivers now you have 3 stripes on your arm.

Where do I sign up?

If only it was opening doors,I’d consider it.Job states pulling curtains then strapping load, then I assume parking it up ,and repeat. And the wind cuts through you on that dock.

As Mickey put some mug will do it, they will look at the gross and not think how many hours worked to get it.

You softies need to move ooop norf, that wage would buy you a row of houses that you could rent out to the immigrants.

Actually, if the job is 55 hours across 5 days,
you have forgotten the overtime premium at T + 1/2, which brings the rate down to £7.20 p/h.

Just don,t paint the doors red tho !!

Downton pay 9.50 ph in tilbury no overtime rates in week

Right, lets see how well C.M Downton does in this industry as a whole, in 2014 its gross turnover was £104,820,221, and net profit was £3,525,512, it had 1132 members of staff generating on average profit each of £3114, devided by 52 weeks = £59.88p per staff member, now how much of a pay rise would you as a staff member want out of that £59.88p and the company still make a profit.
Drivers seem to think these haulage companies are making vast profits out of them, when the reality is their not, they really are only paying staff the maximum they can afford and still keep the company viable and people in jobs…
Some one from the RHA has said the majority of operators should be, in reality be charging 4 times the amount they are to benefit every one!!
This is fact, not fiction, all figures are here https://companycheck.co.uk/company/00905537/CM-DOWNTON-HAULAGE-CONTRACTORS-LIMITED/financial-accounts in black and white and also available from companies house and are public documents.
Those in this industry need to realise that the only way to go, is first to fight for better haulage rates and then go for better wages, its the only way it can be, if they aint got it, they can’t pay it.
Even the bigger companies are complaining about the way things are with rates being dictated to them by there customers, it isn’t just the drivers that are having the ■■■■ taken out out of them by others, its the whole industry.
Main cause, no one will stick together, hauliers or drivers, and it would’t even need direct action to get this changed if everyone stuck together.

That’s the living wage, and it’s only for over 25’s. Zb’s.

Minimum wage.
Avg age of a trucker - 53.
Think my point stands.

Houry pay rate for drivers not best.Company must change sistem.Pay some hours rate but after pay extra money but just depend from individual drivers perfomancy. If driver was driving very ekonomically or do more delivery with less time,no damaged, and much more that he must get some bonus. But now company pay same rate but lazy drivers taked 1-2 hours time every day(stay in bay ,simply stay in lay by or customer promises for 10-20 minute) get money money than drivers who do all properly.Drivers who do properly job back to yard more early ,do more delivery keep company prestige but get less money than some slow drivers.

Lazy drivers ,really ,what about when you ring driver line ,never ring back ,planner tells you to sit with it, t.o make you sit there for hours with no job n the off chance you might be needed , you sit there for hours waiting for a truck etc etc
It’s always the same , blame the drivers :unamused: :unamused:

what problem if I or you seating in not restricted area.Timi running. And if planners ask- why you or I later, that this doesnt meant who he blame me.Unless they give me disciplinary for something-all another verbal hate mean nothing.

I think Dozy is saying that he cannot deliver goods if he is waiting for a unit. Or waiting for a trailer. Or waiting for Driverline or customer services. Or waiting for his planner to send him somewhere.

It drive’s you up the bloody wall after a few months at his place, you just can’t get anything done.

I find it amazing that Stobart’s make ANY money at all.

Its the same in any corporate company.
In IT you have to have 5 planning meeting to discuss how best to implement something, when you could have done it 3 different ways in the same time and actually seen which works best!
