Did you have the same nerves on the class 2 test?
Yes mate. The size of the vehicle isn’t the cause of the nerves apart from a little apprehensive on day one, it’s the nerves on test factor that did me
Get back and rebook it Nick, i forgot to lift pin back up after it failed to lock 1st time and wag n drag,so i to never got out the test centre…not that i wanted to after that .Had a 3 month gap before i could get a retest, so drove down in morning for couple hrs before test at 10-15 then nailed it secondtime .So get that retest done Nick.
NickW88:
Failed in spectacular fashion. Didn’t even manage to leave the yard.Lined up for the reverse as I normally would. Started the manoeuvre and that was the end of that. In my mind it started off ok but then in taking the lock off it went completely ■■■■ up and I tried not to go over the yellow line, and in doing so pretty much left the box with the trailer on the other side. Nerves completely destroyed me this morning, not helped by the weekend gap but that is by the by, I think Idve [zb] it up either way.
Now have to decide wether to bother going for it again or just leaving it now. Really annoyed at myself.
Nick
You are a good driver, don’t let nerves put you off mate, pick yourself up and dust yourself off and try again mate.
As for the reverse you nailed it every time during the course, as you quite rightly said nerves, got the better of you nick.

Dave
I’ll get a retest booked but it won’t be for a while I don’t think. Starting a new fixed term contract job soon so I need to wait until I have some holidays to use.
Thanks for the kind words Dave, you would have hung your head in shame if you’d expect seen what I did this morning lol!
I often wonder if nerves are better settled by doing the road drive first then the yard stuff
That may well be the case Rog, it’s an interesting one to ponder.
I’ve got to say all credit to the examiner, he tried to put me at ease and was a thoroughly nice chap.
Why didn’t you do the driving portion of the test?
Having already failed the test I didn’t feel I would get any benefit from doing so, I would be putting myself through a drive for no reason with nothing to gain. If proven to myself I could drive throughout the week previous so didn’t feel I would really benefit from going out.
Think you should of done it.
You paid for it, so it’s just practice with him giving you feedback on your driving.

Totally agree with this I knew half way round my test that I’d failed but took a deep breath and carried on just to prove to myself it was a missed gear and nothing to greatly worry about. It would probably have reassured you to have done it, personally I was straight in the office booking a retest (in an auto) lol.
I know where you are coming from but I’d got myself that ■■■■■■ off and worked up it was pointless as it wouldn’t have been representative of my driving so I would have been worrying about it all the way round putting more pressure on myself.
I have work lined up on class 2 for six months so I need to start that before I book my retest so I have some holiday time to use as I’ll be doing different shifts each week.
I will be putting in for it again, no doubt on that, rigids ■■■■ lol it’s just one of those things
Must admit I had a 90 minute drive home after my test where I had a good chat to myself about how to change gear , after all I’ve only been driving for 30 years you’d think I’d know. Good luck next time.
Don’t worry Nick, you’re in the same boat as me. Although I got my reverse and couple/uncouple done no problem, I screwed it royally up on the road test. Too preoccupied with where the trailer was, didn’t see where my cab was going. Boom, boom, straight over a traffic island.
Stupid thing is once the test was over I know ■■■■ well if Idve started from scratch I would have done it first time no problem. The mind is a funny thing!
I had to have a bit of a word with myself on the way home as well, especially when I flew past the unmarked police BMW in a fit of rage! Luckily I twigged and slowed down to get a stern finger waggle lol
It’s amazing how nerves and emotions can really screw a drive up!
Nothing wrong with rigids long as you don’t mind a bit of hard work.
They do seem like a step down from the artics but I’d prefer to be town driving with multi drop then 90% of my driving being motorways and dual carriageways. Boring as ■■■■.
That’s my opinion as a car/bike driver though.
On a side note just had a very nice drive to Sidcup on my motorcycle. Passed my Mod 2 (What a joke of a test.) I didn’t practice at all and got 41/50. Passed. Thankfully I knew that if people are tired and drunk they shouldn’t drive and eating healthy food is good for you.
The mod 2 is pretty pointless. Common sense and a knowledge of the theory is more than enough to get it passed.
No point beating yourself up about it, the test is 50% luck anyway. I’m going back in May for my retest in a W+D. Don’t be knocking rigids you! I enjoy it, got a few in London tomorrow so that should be fun.
Never ventured down to London in a Lorry. Don’t want to yet either! There’s nothing wrong with rigids, I just don’t want to drive them lol
