who would do a service and not clean the spinner or change the filter ? the one i have just brought is an ex charles russell late o6 plate lhd it has been maintained regardless of cost the mans fleet are prestine i took a lot of advice before buying a 470 every one told me the same 124 470 in a 4 series were agg the turbo compound unit has been modified in the r series and give very little problems i have spoken to one man who took it of put a cover over the timing gear hole modified the exaust in an 8 wheel tipper and it runs fine iv never spoken to any one with an r series who had a problem and 1 guy had done 1.1 millon km and the trip computer in mine is showing 9.8 mpg over the last 32000km my mate owns fearnwood commercials and has sold loads of em never a prob a lot of it is just driver talk (ihope lol) it wont work very hard with me mainly art movements and film set in the summer then i go back on astrans and take me sellers down to the middle east kind of a juggling act between the 2 its done 770000 and i will do about 150000 inthe next 2 year then down to bahrain and sell it for what i paid 2 year before cheap motoring and dont say good if it works iv done it with me last 4 units even had a profit on some lol

A score says its gone before christmas, you buy a new lorry each & every week, I know you’ve painted it but like I say it won’t be with you 2 years

Is that $ or £’s F/S??

I wouldn’t worry too much about the turbo compound unit Keith, we’ve just sold a 51 plate one we’ve had for 5 years (still running an 04 reg 470) and that never gave any problems in that time, when it came we were told it hadn’t long been fitted with a new one & we were also told to tell the driver to keep an eye on oil consumption cos if it suddenly increases it could be the T/compound unit on it’s way out.

I’ve also heard about removing the unit & fitting a plate over the timing gear hole and a 420 type turbo outlet, making the truck basically a 420 with no reliabilitiy issues expected.

Good luck, Ross.

Them turbo compound scanias seem to be as good as gold on hard work it seems to be if they run light and are nursed they give trouble.
