Busy Mr Trump

Sounds about right to me.
Trump put some tariffs on, makes a big fuss and gets praised when he takes them off again.

On one hand we are really no better off than under Biden. We don’t have a magic new deal.
But if it wasn’t for this deal, we would be worse off because of tariffs. Starmer had to play along to get the tariffs off, and save the JLR and other jobs.

It appears we haven’t really conceded anything much, but until the deal is finalised we don’t really know.

WOW !!!

Got there in the end after all…better late than never.
But we have to keep up appearnces and persona…can’t be letting the side down eh?

I reckon that could just about sum it up …(so far.)
Starmer trying to justify his grovelling.

Again we can only wait and see what else develops…some of us hoping for good things,…and the usual suspects hoping for bad.

The delicious irony here is that the usual suspects are for very obvious reasons torn!

Well yes.
Avoiding possible 4 figure job losses at JLR seem to justify a bit of Prime Ministerial “grovelling”. It seems to me that eating ones words to stop the stupid Trump tariffs is a small price to pay.

It looks to me that this “deal” is necessary to avoid the bad effects of Trump, but don’t let’s kid ourselves that we are better off than this time last year. We are because of this “deal” avoiding a bad situation.

Well, for the next few hours anyway, or until Trump changes his mind again.

There’s still a 25% tariff looming on Scotch though. I think we should threaten to send Nicola Sturgeon over to sort him out

Scotch whisky faces Trump tariffs in just 18 months – unless UK acts | The National

given the sugary crap they call whiskey it would be wasted on them anyways

Are you saying you actually agree?

Oh so we don’t agree then after all…, cos I certainly did NOT say that.

Btw while you are on, and speaking of…Any suggestions for avoiding the ‘bad effects of Starmer’ over here?

I aint, speak for yourself.

I’m with you on that one. Only ever had a bourbon once, tasted like toothpaste.

Trump and his tariffs…Looks like the Chinese tariffs are being reduced? Suspended? Binned?
Phil Moorhouse has a video about Trump climbdowns, but I liked this comment about it’

It’s getting to be like the world’s most embarrassing and laughable boxing match; Xi just stands in his corner quietly chatting to his trainer while Trump runs around the ring punching himself in the head.

Excellent !

I’m all for tact and diplomacy in politics, it is what it is all about…but that vid makes me feel quite grubby..

Does Mandelson really mean all he says?..seriously?
Rearrange these 3 words into a well known phrase.
Does F*** He.

These Lefty idiots hate Trump, they slagged him off something rotten before the election, he goes against everything they stand for…and rightly so.

Latest news is Mandleson is undergoing a medical procedure…to remove his tongue from Trump’s arse. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I’m pretty sure that Mandelson has done worse with his tongue

I think he’d like Wee Jimmy.. be a good match up that

Exactly, and as for Mandelson, words fail me, never could stand the creepy entity.

Me either the man is creepy.
I thought he had just retired gracefully, but he is the right man for the job, creeping around Trump’s arse like a buzzing fly,.and massaging Trump’s inflated ego.:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I think that is the point where you two lose common ground btw, I would imagine Mandelson is a hero to somebody like Franglais…his hatred is more concentrated to individuals who pose a threat to his own warped views.:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Mandelson in the Blair government was known as The Prince of Darkness with a passion for Brazilian nuts.

I sometimes wonder if Starmer modelled himself on him - he just looks creepy. And he was, at the time, seen as the acceptable face of the Blair government.

I survived 1 minute 13 seconds before the feeling in my stomach rose into my chest and threatened to overcome me in retching worse than seen on Osborne Road on a friday night in October.

On the other hand the scene sadly reminded me of trips 40 years ago to a nursing home with the family to see a relative, we all stand awkwardly around as our favourite (great) uncle sits in his chair sedated but still vocal and switching rapidly from talking about the 1920s and his time at Short’s, fast forwarding to 1950s and his time overseas as a colonial police officer in Kenya. Needless to say his ramblings were interesting, colourful and at points “distasteful” and in part made me the commie lefty wokey lentil munching gob ■■■■■ that I am now.

But the point was this was a man diagnosed with dementia and locked up in a nursing home, not in charge of a major country armed with nukes and tariffs. The mandy video, is awful in both respects, the sycophantic trash coming from mandy is vomit world, but also how Trump is sat there like some deranged lunatic in the funny farm and thinks he’s the king or pope. The staff just playing along partly in jest and partly for an easier life.

I can only imagine that for some years after Trump finally moves on, state leaders will pause and question their peers as to how serious anyone is now. Someone says something, and no one will take that as gospel intention. Will that be a good thing, make everyone else act in a way that keeps their interests secured, else will it mean instability as agreements that demand trust among leaders go unmade, because the age of traditional diplomacy is over.

90 day pause on tariffs. Was that always part of the plan or another kneejerk shift as economic leaders in the US cajole or threaten trump to backtrack because of the damage wrecked? Will other world leaders start to game Trump, lead him up a ginnel knowing Trump has to damage his interests so much in the backtrack. Because frankly I don’t think Trump could even play competitive draughts when others can play 3D chess. And having surrounded himself by a bunch of ass kissers and sacked all the experience and intelligence across the government, he’s got no one stopping him messing up every time.

If you haven’t yet read it, I recommend Dr David Owen’s book “In Sickness and in Power”.
Trump is not the first in power to be most probably ill in one or another that affects their “decision making”. And his “The Hubris Syndrome” is another excellent look at Bush, Blair, and power.

Did Harold Wilson not resign as he had the onset of dementia and tried to keep it quiet at the time?
