Ford Trader with Duple Marriner body 1964
A Classic 1950s Leyland Tiger Cub with Duple Elizabethan bodywork operating tours round the Great Orme at Llandudno which I snapped in April 2017.
Tiger Cubs with the Leyland 4 speed box were fickle machines to drive due to revs being very slow to die down, those with Albion 5 speed box were much better.
Cheers, Leyland 600.

The Foden-NC was a semi-integral double decker bus,powered by a rear Gardner 6LXB 180 Diesel-Oil Engine,driving through a Allison
MT640 Automatic Transmission,via a Foden transfer gearbox. 7 Foden-NC’s were made.
The Gardner engine and Allison transmission were not compatible, hence Foden introduced the transfer gearbox to match these components.
But the Allison transmission was inefficient and the transfer gearbox was unreliable. All of the Foden-NC’s had short service lives, and two are
preserved
It was great shame about the Foden-NC.

Interesting! I had neverd heard that coaches had been built on Ford Traders chassis.

I am grateful to Dave/xkopite for this picture of Old Haymarket in Liverpool.
The vans at the bottom of the picture have just exited the Mersey Tunnel,
from left to right, Scotts Bakery, probably a Ford Thames, they had dozens
of them, a Morris J van, and what looks like a Jowett Bradford van.
At the head of the queue of vehicles heading to the left, looks like a “Black Maria”
Police van, used for transporting to and from the several Law Courts in this area.
The adverts on the 2 Liverpool Corporation AEC buses are Threlfalls Brewery and
Capstan Cigarettes. The red bus is a Ribble Leyland PD2. Regards, Ray
I had a brief ride in this magnificent 1939 Bedford WTB yesterday at Lakeside. The interior is even more stunning. My apologies for the picture quality, taken on an old cheap 'phone I use for work, I will substitute a friend’s version when I receive it. Meanwhile links to last year’s running day with better pictures, which also feature the Leyland TD1 from Jersey which Ensign restored that was minus engine a year ago, but which was running yesterday.
Unfortunately Seaford and District’s ex M&D Leyland Leopard suffered a broken windscreen on the road from Braintree to Ongar during the late afternoon so the passengers had to be transferred onto Roy Gould’s AEC Regal IV BEA airport half decker.

Another view of London Road in Liverpool. At the top are 3 Ribble buses, the one on
the left, just peeping out of Norton Street will turn down London Road and turn along
Lime Street and onto the Ribble Bus Station at Skelhorne Street. The other two have
turned out of St Vincent Street, and will follow the Liverpool Corporation Leyland PD2
down London Road and head North. The 2 Corporation Leyland Atlanteans will turn left
and proceed toward the Pier Head.

The Sound of Music is playing at the Odeon so we can probably date this to Spring 1965.
Yes CAV I reckon you are spot on with the date, I remember seeing the film in Carlisle at the time.
Cheers, Leyland 600.

Yes and a throaty exhaust as well ,i believe that Tiger cub is ex Smiths Spenser Happiways Manchester ? Trevor
Hi Trooper, No I probably went in the Morris 8 van I had at the time, but between mid 1963 through to November 1964 I drove 1553 many times while working at Carlisle depot. Look back to page 17 on this site and see yours truly with sister bus 1594. I know your photo shows the bus in its present state at RVPG Freckleton how sad. I visited Freckleton with an ex Ribble friend in 2017 when we had a good look round at all the buses and coaches kept there, many under restoration.
Cheers, Leyland 600.
Hi Oily, the Ford/ Plaxton Supreme belonged to Alistair Rosie from Evie, Orkney, he operated about 3 coaches on local school work until about 2000 I guess
I think I may have a photo of this coach lying derilict at a farm near Outertown, Stromness.
Cheers, Leyland 600.

Hi Leyland 600 I’ve added some detail, the Rosie coach was new to Newtons of Dingwall and here’s another one from Orkney which was new to Tyne and Tees PTE

Hi Oily, Thanks for posting this photo of ex Armstrong Galley (Tyne & Wear PTE) GBB 996 N seen here in Kirkwall’s old bus station with the spire of St Magnus Cathedral in the background. Billy Stove from Grind, Deerness operated the bus service from the East Mainland of Orkney (Deerness) into Kirkwall after taking over the service from Davie Laughton in 1977. He had a penchant for Leylands operating an ex Aberdeen Corporation Tiger Cub GRS 12E (?) which was later repatriated to the Grampian Transport Museum at Alford, I managed a chance photo in 1979 in Kirkwall.
I have watched GBB 996N slowly deteriorate along side ex Ribble extended tour coach Leopard KCK 999H (No 999) since visiting Orkney regularly since 1996 where the exposed site at Grind suffers greatly from the vagaries of horizontal wind, rain and snow which over the years have gradually ripped off the panels. Also in my photos below an ex National Travel North East, ex Stagecoach Leopard suffered the same fate. This coach achieved fame in the transport press when photographs were published of the innovative use of the STAGECOACH fleetname being altered to STOVECOACH. There was and still is as far as I know a Bristol LH with Plaxton Supreme bodywork ex Western National I think parkrd behind the farmhouse and used as a greenhouse which is the way most Orkney buses and coaches end up. I think he gave up operations some time in the mid 1990s.Ribble 999 came from Watt & Allan from Spittal in Caithness where the flagstone quarries are.
Cheers, Leyland 600.
Two Leyland PD2 buses at the South John Street terminus of routes 317 & 320 in Liverpool, late 1960s.
The Wigan Corporation Leyland on route 320 was quite new at the time this picture was taken.
The St Helens Leyland on route 317 is probably from the early 1960s. Ray Smyth.
