Bus driving

Firstly, does anybody want to do my shift on the 2nd January starting at 04:35…
Anyway, for those that hold the bus licence just phone up the bus firms and ask if they have any jobs going - thats what I did on Thursday and I have an interview on Tuesday :open_mouth:

Sorry mate - been there, done that! :frowning:

I hated it!

Stick to trucks, the cargo in the back doesnt complain as much as the punters on the bus!

Agree with Joe; I’d sooner carry cattle!

I dunno, but I won’t be doing it… the only 04:35 I know is the one where you haven’t gone to bed yet!

Reminds me - must phone Zenith to at least pay for the training before the monies spent…
The interview I have on Tuesday is for driving coaches between Reading and Heathrow so at least they want to be on it instead of little old grannies just riding out for the fun of it just because they can :smiling_imp:

I used to work for National Express running to the airports from Cambridge… Play your cards right you will get loads of totty, passengers and airport staff. I was 21 at the time and never had so much action in my life lol

I could never go back to local route inner city bus driving. 9 hour shift on the buses felt worse than a 15 on the trucks :open_mouth: and don’t even mention the old ■■■■■ on for nothing but a jolly down the road for their half pint and half loaf. Used to be the free travel started at 9am and they would all be queing up and would ■■■■■ like hell when I wouldn’t let them on at 8:59 for free

Days of working xmas day are long over for me now

I did it for a good few years it aint too bad…money reasonable set hours stay polite with he punters and you will get on fine.

It would be no different mate  its just like driving a cattle truck most of the time

Exactly what you’ll be doing.

Bus drivers must be gay, they are always leaving their back end out in the middle of the road ready to be humped :sunglasses:

im supposed to be having an interview with national express in the new year, dont know what will happen with that as theyve announced job losses aswell, does anyone on here drive or used to drive for them, here is a thought though, they are always looking for london bus drivers and there are thousands of unemployed in london that could do that job, why dont the goverment say right we will provide your training, uniform etc then they have a job that pays £500+ a week… i may do it myself

Because they,ll end up training all the chavs ,
and in 3 weeks time they,ll go back on the dole.

If you want something ,
work and save for it.

Wait for a hand out :unamused:

Ah the good old days.

We used to call them the Twirlies (At 0855, “Am I too early?”), every morning, the same question. Or the coffin dodgers,

Cool… :sunglasses:

I’m starting my 6th week with trathens tomorrow. They are the biggest operator on the Nat Ex network. I have to say I had reservations about going back
on public transport work after 9 yrs. So far its been ok and I’ve enjoyed it. I do miss the truck work, Radio 2 and sleeping when i want, but the job market in HGV work is on it’s knees, and it depresses me to read about all you lads on here with no work, and a bleak future. Even more so when i read that some of you are considering going to another industry.
For those of you who have posted above about going for Nat ex, go for it, the system has improved since I last did it 13yrs ago, the passengers are still as thick as [zb], but it’s going to pay the bills in the new year, and thats the reason I’m doing it. The downside is that there is now random breathtests, with zero tolerance. Any positive test leads to instant dismissal and a life ban on the network. I’m working Boxing day and new years day, so I will have to watch what I’m drinking the day before.
also, I am on with 4 agencies, and on my days off, they have rarerly found me work. I hope you posters on here aren’t lost to the HGV industry to long, and the new year brings you new opprotunities. Merry Xmas and a happy new year to you all

Too true … I would rather have my teeth pulled with pliers than ferry the great unwashed around :open_mouth:

Its the old ones that are the best-

What happened to the last bus, driver?Ive been waiting for over an hour?

  • Dunno,Im driving this one ,not the last one

How long will the next number 9 be
-about 48 feet, the same length as this one!

And the best one - never ever, ever ask a bus  driver the time of the next bus as the answer is ALWAYS “5 mins”

Or…you’re late driver…

No I’m not late Mrs, I’m the next bus early…

Good old bus driving, I did it on and off for 14 years or so. I doubt I could go back to the inner city route driving now, but I’d have a crack at the national Express. But then whatever pays the bills eh.
