Burger bar to avoid in Leeds

When I used to be on containers I’d regularly stop at the burger bar just off Hunslet Road in Stourton, next to London Container Services (LCS) and near to the Parcelforce depot. Don’t know exactly who it was run by but there were always 3 elderly ladies serving there and there was always a queue of folks waiting for their food there - always a good sign.

Well today I was in the area and decided to re-pay it a visit, looking forward to a full breakfast like I used to have.

Different set of folks in now though (scruffy looking; looked like gypo’s) and no queue of folks waiting :open_mouth: .

Anyway £2.90 for 2 bac, 2 sos, 2 egg, beans, toms and bread-cake I thought was a bit steep but I was so hungry that I gave it a whirl anyway.

Get this : the lass put my entire breakfast in a small square burger box :open_mouth: instead of the usual big oblong ones :open_mouth: . Paid my money and went to my cab to eat it. Took me all of 5 minutes to devour the smallest 2 pieces of bacon you’ve ever seen, 2 rubber sausages that had been kept warm for the past 24 hours, 2 eggs that didn’t even closely resemble eggs, beans were okay though I guess :unamused: . Now I don’t mind paying good money but I expect either good quality service or goods for it and this breakfast was neither.

So I went back and complained and asked for my money back which she just laughed at. Anyway, unbeknown to me, the woman who was walking up heard me ranting about it and she turned out to be the owner. She gave me my money back and suggested I didn’t return there to which I made her a guarantee that I wouldn’t be doing  .

Another good burger bar gone by the wayside  . Avoid this one at all costs for sure :open_mouth: .

Cheers.

Thought about that but then I wouldn’t have any food to eat nor money to buy it with so I thought I’d eat it to satisfy my immediate hunger urge then go and complain in the hope of getting (some) money back to go elsewhere and buy some more  . Worked too :exclamation:

Cheers.

I reckon the advert RobK has put on this site will bring her a huge downturn in business :stuck_out_tongue:

Maybe she will regret her decision.

Burger Vans and Hygiene cannot go together.

A full day in a manky caravan without any toilets or washing facility.

I remember all them vans down the A34 and one old tart who would disappear behind the hedge while the bacon was cooking :frowning:

Im glad the council closed them all down although the services are not much better

the one thing that really ■■■■■■ me off about these pathetic little burger vans is you ask for a bacon and egg sandwich with no sauce, and the ■■■■■■■■ go and cut it with the same knife the bloke before had his bacon and sausage splash with brown sauce on it

then they wonder why you don’t want it :open_mouth:

If any of you are in the Dewsbury/Mirfield area, if you turn into the Ravensthorpe Ind Est you’ll come to a burger van along there outside Chiquita bananas. It’s run by Linda and Steve and their young lad Chris. Really nice people and the food is first class. They do a wicked roast beef dinner in a poly box and you won’t be able to eat it all I’ll guarantee you :exclamation:

Tell them Rob formerly of Featherstones sent you

Cheers.

At least with these vans you can see what the kitchen is like and what the person doing the cooking is like and make your decision based on that. I have often stopped at one and only had a coffee cos I didn’t think it looked that clean. When you go a restaruant or pub you rarely see the kitchen or the cook - they could both be manky.

Ah, you big wuss :exclamation:  . Imho a good few live and kicking bacteria are good for you as it gives your body immune system something to do. I make that ‘humble opinion’ based on the fact that if I get so much as a common cold once every two or three years I’m unfortunate. Only ever had the 'flu once and apart from that I’ve never been ill. On the other side of the coin my mate Carl is never at work. He’s always off with colds, 'flu, head-aches, you name it, he’s had it. Then again it might have something to do with the fact he only shops at Sainsbury’s and buys the most expensive ‘luxury’ and organic food he can find and throws stuff away because 'it’s getting near its use by date :unamused: . I regularly consume things that are past their use by date : eggs (over a month past its use by date but still tastes and looks the same) :open_mouth: , bread (as long as it’s not mouldy or hard  ), cheese (same applies), milk (as long as it doesn’t smell too bad and is still completely in liquid form) etc.

Cheers.

you’re right there Rob if I ever eat a salad or fruit my body thinks it’s a poison and rejcts it straight away by me paying a 1/2 hour visit to the bog

Best burger van ever (and I’ve been to my share) has to be “Johns” on the A472 between Pontypool and Crumlin. £2 for a “Johns Special” huge bacon, sausage, egg and mushroom sandwich in thick handcut bread, my mouths watering as I type…clean too. Anyone else visit Johns on this site?

Frank

ps no I don’t own shares in it lol

The Flying Sauage Used to be just off J29 of the M1. They first set up in the mid 80’s and myself and three others were the first ever customers after they called out on the CB, we spread the work and it became so popular they had to get two sit in caravans. The breakfast was amazing and so cheap you wondered if the food was stolen. I don’t know if it is still there

Over here  A Guy called ‘Tom’ who does the night shift (midnight to 7.00am) at the SUNOCO station at Exit 20 off I-89 in Lebanon NH makes the best Bacon, egg & cheese toasted muffins I have ever tasted, He knows my truck as I buy ciggy’s there, and has a fresh one on the counter by the time I have filled my travel mug
