that was me, unfortunatley i had no article from an 'official source ’ so the post was removed. i was told tuesday afternoon, but with the forum moderators approach to as yet unproven stories im afraid as usual the driverssubbies will continue to be the last to know.
i also posted about jdf barnsley before the event and that post was removed. i heard rumours about macfarlanes leeds prior to event but was not 100% so did not post.

Bad times when the forum is balls in with a mag and the users cant give a heads up to firms struggling and facing the wall.
As you say the drivers are generally the last to know, which is about the time their wages dont hit the bank, bit late then
All because some ■■■■ can class peoples opinions as libel, drainers.

Just be a bit more clever with the wording next time
Easy to get your point across without making it a libelous post.

i only said bulmers north east, less than 10 working days, and never mentioned bust or bankrupt, still it was removed.

I know one lad who was a subby for Bulmers and he had worked it out at the start of December. His words to me were “he’s getting a bit slow at paying me again”. Then with all the business that was posted about on here about no Christmas bonus and overtime not being paid for a couple of weeks I’m sure most of the drivers had worked it out too.
I was always paid ontime and correct (overtime, bonuses etc), and have been offered position with Wards. Don’t know much about them but its better than nowt. Was at Bulmers 4 years and was a bloody good job.

Whilst that might be true, it’s also “bad times” when don’t read the forum rules.
Forum Rule #1
Rule 1 YOU are responsible for the contents of YOUR posts. If you post something that causes someone to sue us, then we’ll pass on everything we know about you. We will NOT carry the can.
We know that some people don’t bother to read the rules (although they HAVE electronically signed up to them ) so in order to save some folk from their own stupidity and bringing possible legal consequences upon TNUK and themselves when they go gobbing off, we also have this facility…
Rumour, Gossip or just plain old Bull manure
This industry has always been rife with rumours, I have forgotten how many times I have been told in truckstops and cafes over the years that XYZ hauler has gone bust, is in trouble etc and the huge majority are still trading succesfuly today.
This forum and the internet in general is not immune to those rumours, however the problem with the internet is that those rumours hang around, and can be found by many other people. 2-3 people in a Truckstop bar will have little impact. A post on an internet forum can be read by many more people.
If you want to post “Gossip” then please ensure it is based on more than " I overheard,"or “a driver told me”, do a little research before making a public statement about a companies position.
If you have some information about a company but cannot verify it, but are convinced it has some element of truth, then you can always Private Message me and I will look into the rumour via RBI’s many industry contacts and let you know as soon as possible what I have found out and advise wether it can be posted publicaly
We will remove any gossip that is found to have no foundation in truth, to protect us,the poster and the company concerned. valid requests for information on a company will be removed temporarily and researched as far as we can and the results posted. Repeated questions on the same subject will be removed as well. and the poster refered back to the original.
If you have “New Factual Information” that can be verified then by all means post a new topic or add a reply to the original.
In the above quote, “me” means Rikki-UK, the forum Community Manager.
But if you here any stories then you could also contact Rikki through PM or e mail or a phone cal ( his & Lucy were ready available to all at 1 time ) ask for a reply
IIRC not long ago a young lady posted in the Newbies about a broker that were unfounded they took action ( I believe they took her to court they won )

I used to speak with Jonothan Bulmer quite a bit when I was at TRUCK, I even had a 580 Scania of his in a regular feature I came up with, I thought he was a pretty decent bloke, he was very high profile in a Stobart kind of way, distinctive livery, good spec trucks etc, from what I know of his operation he had a good business model, ok so the trucks were a bit over specced, but this was in the times of the driver shortage, so it helped retain and recruit drivers, I spoke with a few of them (not just hand picked yes men) and they were complimentary. The company managed to have a good run too, I had my dealings with them in 2001 and they never got into trouble until the recession started to bite.
To do things the way Bulmers did would mean that there costs were higher than most, in good times they could get away with charging a little more, but when the gordon brown stuff hit the fan they were in the same boat as everyone else, those with lower operating costs could afford to take a hit on rates and volumes, they couldn’t and down the pan they went, only to be reborn via pre pack.
Pre pack is no good to anybody but the financial institutes, they’re the ones that are responsible for it in the first place, they like it because it gives them a chance to recoup their losses at a later date and means that they don’t get left with, in the case of a failed haulier, a field full of snatched back lorries that are worthless on the used market because nobody is buying anything in the middle of a recession.
Banks and finance houses almost force companies in liquidation to follow the pre pack route, but look at the statistics, it’s only the larger operations that get pre pack, an owner driver or a bloke with 10 motors wouldn’t have a chance at it, as usual it’s the banks and the tossers in Westminster that benefit from it, they come back from their clandestine meetings in the karzis on Clapham Common and tell us pre pack will save jobs blah blah [zb]ing blah, yet in reality all it does is make more money for them, the BOCs
Good post NMM but what’s BOCs? Bet it comes to me after I post this…
As a ex employee of Bulmers as of last friday, how this was all done was poor no regarded to people who work there drivers had not even been told and the henchmen were there in the yard waiting for the trucks and trailers…Bulmer should never be allowed to run another haulage company…oh but there u go he has popped up at ward bros…if your an owner/driver or a subbie keep well clear of him he has no concern for any one
I know how you feel, i started for JB in 1999, and due to management changes (were are they now) was selected for redundancy? i wonder why.
We started with 20 vehicles, and in the first 18 months had acheived the 100th, X100 ARB, we managed to secure profitable contracts with blue chip companies, turning over 12m.
The facts are, that up to 2007 Bulmers was making money, this was proven by cash injections from Yorkshire Bank and RBS as reported in the local news at the time.
And so if you take the above into account, the time line confirms profit 2007, cash 2008, new management 2008, pre-pack 2009 and new management gone, 2011 folds.
If he had satayed with what he knew, and the poeple that made him,i dont think this would have been the case, it is sad but the book must stop with JB, he unfortunately not only started it, but in the end finished it

Cash injection from RBS eh? Having seen how that companies fortunes panned out, I don’t think thats anything to crow about.
The guys gone bust twice, leaving people out of pocket and probably pushing some small firms out of existence. I wouldn’t let him anywhere near another transport business.
People don’t make enough money in the good times, the blind faith in ‘growth’ and ‘increasing revenues’ with almost no thought given to profitability. On a basic level, if everyone stuck to a manageable number of trucks and make a decent amount of cash on each, rather than trying to expand to 500 wagons and only making a tenner a day on each. When the work dies that wafer thin margin just isn’t good enough.
