Bulk tippers

Muckaway:
What’s the difference between a tipper and a bulk tipper? Is an aggregate bodied artic tipper a bulker? Is it a certain volume?

Things have changed but to me a bulker was any body that could easily get its weight on with coal ,in the 80s most artic tippers were 45 yards ,a 57 yd Wilcox step frame was a big body, now look 65 is the norm for bulk.

In the 80s the MGW for an artic was 32t, then it increased to 38t. it then increased again to 44t
I think this may have some bearing on the reasons body’s get bigger :bulb:

They may have to get shallower again, being as newer trucks keep getting heavier.

Is it not to so with the height if the sides of the trailer and what’s carried?

I have taken the job and start a week on Monday so will keep you posted !

Reading through and saw the posts on Fernwood it seems they will be the Yuill&Dodds o the midlands then. Eddie.

Bulk tippers. Fantastic job. Yes it’s dirty and you are kept going. But depending who you work for it can be varied. I did all sorts, bark into central London, road stone to skye, coal into the works smallest coal merchants, grain into huge mills etc etc.
I had a freuhauf gt bulker with greedy boards. Could get some mega weights on it! But it was handy for wood chips, a wet load could be sheeted instead of netted.
Good luck and all the best.
