I wonder if anyone can help,I have been trying to obtain info on the BRS parcels operation based in halifax.I know they used the original Holdsworth & Hanson depot at Transport house Horton street.I found some original pictures in the book BRS Parcels Services & Express Carriers.there are some great images from the 1930’s.I found a couple of pictures take during the building demolition in 1985.I have attached these it to see if this helps.
Also there are some pictures of a Scammel Scarab reg no.VHW98 flt no.P4D934 which was the area fleet code for Halifax and surrounding area,I wondered if it was ever based at halifax.
So thinking caps on chaps and engage grey matter if you will please.
many thanks
Chris
Hi Chris. I have the fleet lists for Bradford and Halifax Parcels in about 1960. There were 2 Scarabs in Bradford SKY 643 and 644; P4D932 and 933. None in Halifax so I think P4D934 may have been based in Huddesfield. I’ve added a scan of the list although rather faded. If you want it translated let me know!
YHW is a Bristol reg. so I think the restored Scarab may be a bit fictional. P4D934 was SKY 824.Peter

hiya,
Chrisb01 in that magic book of yours was there ever a BRS depot in Malton,
I seem to recall fuelling up there in the late 50s can’t remember if it was a
general or parcels depot but it is possible it was somewhere else but I feel
somehow it was Malton not to far from the level crossing if I’m correct.
thanks harry, long retired.
I know that Peter said the address for Malton was Saville street.I took what you said Harry about it being near the railway crossing and on google there is an old garage and petrol station right near the crossing on Welland road with a big yard at back that looks interesting.I know it not the address listed but could it be the place?regards chris

Peter,
Thanks again for parcels list for Halifax and Bradford.I was having a good look through and then found a bit of a surprise,if you look in BRS Parcels Services & The Express Carriers book on page 156 in the top right hand corner is a picture of a Leyland Comet Artic flt no.P4D985 signwritten but un-reg awaiting delivery to Halifax.Having looked at the listings for Halifax it doesn’t appear to have arrived.I have taken a photo for reference.any ideas?

I think there was a BRS depot on Barnsley road coming out of Wakefield a c,uple of mile on from the west riding bus garage.

I can think of a transport co. on the left hand side on Barnsley rd, they had big brick garage I think the company was crowthers, yellow and green trucks.seems along time ago.

one of crowthers ERF out of Wakefield ,there’s also one on the rally scene but not in crowthers colours

Peter,
Just wondered if you’d had a chance to check out the info I left about the signwritten Comet?
I noticed we may have got side tracked about the Wakefield haulage firm. Can’t seem to find a listing for this Comet anywhere.wonder what happened to it,could it have been re-allocated somewhere else? regards Chris
Hi Chris. Can’t find any sign of P4D985. It didn’t go to Bradford or Halifax but may have been sent to Milnsbridge or Huddesfield as they were also P4D fleet numbers. I only have the later list for Huddesfield and they did have 4 new Comets at that time. 45NE 379-380/1/2. 6064 UG 7578 UG 5656UM and 5657 UM. Peter
Another depot to identify. Complete with it’s own pylon.

Peter,
Just doubled checked that the Comet in question actually was signwritten on the front wing with address of “Transport House Horton Street Halifax” on it.That’s why I found it difficult to see where else it could have gone!!strange why it never appeared.thanks for trying to locate it.Just one of those un-answered questions.Chris

Transport House may have been the registered company address rather than the depot. Most London vans had the Goswell Road address not the depots. Peter
