100% correct. Balers in the rear yard awaiting delivery give it away!
The depot name under BRS gave it away
anybody on here remember the Blackburn brs depot on bennington st and going in the Brunswick Hotel across audley range .my dad was foreman coachpainter at motor bodies across the road, jack preston was his name,he used to put a fe hours in that pub.the pub and motor bodies are now long gone but the brs depot is still there.i think it used to be Lloyds haulage at one time,it is now a plywood and timber wharehouse.

hiya,
I remember it well having worked there in the late 50s, (made redundant in the mid 6os) reinstated
within a matter of months only to be finished permanently a couple of years later (late 60s) but this
time not rallying to the call of even another re-call which was just before closure in the early 70s, I
can’t remember who the hauliers were who was nationalised to bring Bennington Street under the
umbrella of British Road Services, but I do believe Carter Patterson Pickford’s were mentioned in my
days there but could be wrong on that one, I did a drive by of the place in December when our “kid”
was in hospital in the new hospital in Blackburn as you say not much alteration to the place but I did
notice the office block which was by the Bennington Street entrance had been demolished the depot
in my time was unusual in that it was totally undercover, great if there was transhipping to be done,
but so tight when the vehicles were all in at weekend and trying to plan an escape route for you, if
having to be out on Sunday, there was another little private haulier just further along from the BRS
called Sharples who just did local work for British Rail and the first time I was laid off that’s where I
did a week or two until my first re-call. But my memories of Benninton Street are still vivid and it is
a very happy time of my life so happy in fact I returned to working for the BRS yet again but this time
in another part of the country.
