Here’s a nice Bristol for you to do a trip with Harry.Out of Jet Morgan’s pics, taken at a vintage show.
hiya,
Thanks Dave, if i only had a shilling for every mile i’d done in one identical to the above i’d be nearly as wealthy as old Norman.
thanks harry long retired.

Hi Harry.
Don’t know much about Bristol’s myself, used to see them on the road in BRS colours, from what you and others have said they sound good old moters.I would imagine one of those restored like the one in te pic would be worth a few bob.
Cheers Dave.
hiya,
Never ever saw one broken down, I never had one let me down the odd puncture maybe and that was OK when they stopped us carrying spare wheels just sit and wait for the tyreman, i wonder myself what a restored one would be worth, I liked them i thought the leggers and the artics was a good tool, you’d never break the land speed record in them but who cared you got the time it took to do the job.
thanks harry long retired.
A more relaxed day and age Harry, not so cut throat as these days, more A roads and no moterways when those came out.No doubt there was more handballing and such. I find moterways good for travelling a long distance, but very boring and dull, much more interesting on the A and B roads,a lot slower, but more to see, especially in one of those.
Cheers Dave.
hiya,
Relaxed just about says it all Dave, the only thing the BRS would carpet you for was running out of fuel, they did’nt like that and there was so many places who would supply you, but in my time not many filling stations, it never happened to me but i remember on one occasion having to buy 5 gallons of paraffin at a little filling station, they did’nt sell diesel, just north of Poole to make sure i got to the next fuel point, the guy in the filling station did’nt think it would run but i knew differently and got there OK, and to be fair the old girl (a Mandator) seemed to go like a bomb.
thanks harry long retired.
Don’t know if it was done on BRS Harry, but as you know there was plenty of parrafin used in the winter on diesels to stop the fuel waxing up.None of the winter fuel like nowadays.
Cheers Dave.
hiya,
Yes Dave most drivers added a drop of paraffin to a full tank in the early days but i’m talking running on neat stuff here and i feel pretty certain i got the 5 gallons for under a quid but that would have been about the same price as derv in those far off days, remember a story going round about a BRS lad getting back to his motor one winter morning yes the diesel had "jellied and the thing would’nt crack-up so he found an old tyre in the lay-by stuffed it with oily rags tied a rope round it set it on fire and pushed it under the motor “to warm things up” when he came to drag the inferno from below the engine the rope had burned through, you’ve guessed it the fibreglass cab caught fire and the lot went up, he must have had a good excuse too because he was still there until retirement.

In the late 70s I saw an old Aki on the hard shoulder near Toddy services on the M1 and the driver was just dipping the rag in the fuel tank. Well just like your man Harry after I had tipped in London coming back up the motorway there was the burnt out shell.
Regards Keith
Harry & Nicholas, never heard about Magpie, but a young ginger headed chap who done a TV programm for " Blue Peter" and took his BRS Overland to a sand pit and they filmed him, his name was Dave Stroud, he was called by to old timers when in Jordon " Mr TIR", they was just pulling his leg, because he was telling a tale.

thanks harry long retired.
Hi numbum,
Cracking line up of what would be classic lorries now, they look llike proper working lorries, different era to all the fancy moters of these days.
Cheers Dave.
Chris can you find a lorry for Harry that has a modern computor fitted,or we will have to appeal to the Salvation army or any charity shop to see if they have a old one still working, we cannot lose the cryptic and amusing replies that Harry has dished up these past few years.
Frenchy if you are still alive and kicking, we need you, Harry has gone down with computor trouble,
I need help.

Hi Norman.Harry once told me that an air gauge and a speedo was enough in the cab for him so he wouldn’t want a computer
He’ll be back on line soon just you wait and see - he’ll be missing the craic with the lads.
Chris, he might have said that, but at this moment, I think he would do or accept anything that would get him back in the groove again.
