Chris never drove that model although our depot had a couple at one time, have driven later ones though, i was always lumbered with same age Octopus’s and a bit later Bristols but did get to grips with a mk5 when i got made redundant from the BRS and did a bit of private wag and drag work until i got the call to go back to the old red and rust, reverted to driving artics (Bristols) soon after my return and have’nt driven rigids and drawbars since except to move them about the yard until they vanished like the dinosaurs.

Here’s one for the old hands
My dad drove for the old red & rust in the 60s-early 70s & i’m sure that he told me that he had crossed paths with a rather young militant Alex Ferguson … yes that one demanding on no uncertain terms my dad’s union card before being allowed on site , i think it was at one of the shipbuilders on the Clyde
Did anyone else meet him
Think Harry might prefer this one
Or even this one
Ray
hiya,
Thanks for that Ray, nice to see proper motors in proper colours doing a proper job, wish i’d a oncer for evey mile i’ve done in identical ones to them.
thanks harry long retired.
I think they look a lot like the ones who done the London Bricks from J13 on the M1?
One each here for you both and tastefully done, seen at the Cheshire Run last weekend.
hiya,
More cracking pics glad to see more BRS related stuff being published, tell you what i must be more ancient than i previously thought can remember seeing the old Thorny’s doing the business i saw the odd one still active when i was punching the old Bristols around, the old red and rust certainly got their money’s worth out of their motors,no one can say they frittered the taxpayers money on new stuff.
thanks harry long retired.
Harry I can see you will be in tears when you see them motor at the show at lincoln farm cafe, do you want me to bring extra hankerchiefs, I hate to see grown men cry.
hiya,
Norm i’ll bring my own hankies, knowing you you’ll want over the odds for them, i’ve got my bed booked at the guest house next door will be staying a couple of nights the night before the do and the night of the do, got my bottle of scotch packed ready, my digs are only a short stroll away so i’ll be able swig my hip flask to my hearts content without her indoors telling me to put it away, “you’ll be bad tomorrow” peace for a couple of days can’t wait, book your bed Norm and we’ll get sozzled together i somehow don’t think we’ll be called on to grab the handlebars i would’nt be able to clamber in the shed now anyway but would’nt mind having a little sit in an oldie for old times sake bring on the Bristols.
thanks harry long retired.
Hello Harry, you will be getting me a bad name, people will think I am a old spiv
, how could you do this to a old red&rust driver! and I would have let you have the nose rags for cost price
, but I will do my upmost to buy you a drink and have a chin wag, so you are booked in on the 3rd&4th July. Norman.
hiya,
Yes Norm booked in at the guest house for a couple of nights a nice escape from the old lady a couple of days peace and quiet and no brat watching, and Norm if you want to get me drunk feel free i can live with hangovers if they’ve cost me nowt.
thanks harry long retired.

regards from Nicholas.

hiya,
Have seen the BRS promo vid, there’s a chap who posts on here “he’s normally having a go at me” Norman Ingram who was a driver on the BRS Overland job he may know something about the Marathons.
