that mk5 AEC looks spot on and was perhaps good for 70mph.Not a lot of driver comfort and a bit noisey, but what was’ntin the 60s and that round bonnet was useless for a 20min kip. Mind you i only did recovery or day trips with mk5s. Theres a photo of a Adams Butter mk5 with twin headlights looks stunning. I’ll borrow it and put it on here

Hi John.
I’d like to see that MK5 with twin headlights. That would be at Leek I take it?
hiya,
Go on Norm you take that and enjoy my experience of one of them which i had for a few weeks was’nt good spent half a shift using the spanners on it, six wheel thing day cab job but was only local with it would’nt taken it beyond the local bus boundary, and the gaffer asked me to stay whe i put my notice in, i declined nicely.
thanks harry long retired.
hiya,
Norm i thought it was just a bit of a rogue motor, it was a bit long in the tooth when i got hold of but it seems they was a pile of junk the guys i spoke on the site “building a bypass” all said they was rubbish i sure as hell was’nt impressed.

Hi Harry,
It seems everything that became part of British Leyland became a poor product. Leyland were good moters, but once they were thrown together with BMC,they never seemed to have many models that had quality.
Cheers Dave.

Thats right Chris it was a panel they had made and fitted to the night trunkers Twin headlights two spots under the chrome bumper they looked well smart
in their day. Waitham Abbey twice a day. They had Marathons after but the yard was moved to Radlett 5 trips in 2 days for year after year. A semi auto Beaver
run for 5 years day/night men Then got pensinoed of on locals. They all got a service between trips on a rotor. They would roll in through the wash oil /water/derv change trailer new driver into warm seat .And gone turn around in 30 mins.
John
The Scammell Crusader was not a bad motor and they would have been a lot better developing it than introducing the Marathon in my humble opinion
hiya,
You could’nt fault the Roller engined Crusader a top motor in their time i always found them 100% reliable i only drove one occasionly but a pal of mine drove one continually from new i drove it when he was off never let you down still going like a good un when sold on.

Hi John, just found this, not your motor but a nice Adams MK5 Mandator anyroad.

Hi all,
This one for Harry

Hiya Chris, nice pic of Adams.
Now how about these BRITISH (
)Road Sevices

Do you think you can trust Harry and Norm with these, or …ahem, do you think we should keep them for ourselves

Ray
hiya,
FF you can trust me with the driving of but not the using of the vehicle wash, so if you want em’ to stay nice and shiny like in the pics don’t ring me i’ll ring you i’ll rather have a battered old Octopus or a Bristol, my philophosy is a motor on the wash is a motor not on the road earning money, nice looking motors though nowt like them when i was a red and ruster.

Thanks Chris, That trailer looks a bit dated, they used them for moving cardboard from their printing works a few streets away. A chap looked in a skip when they were knocking the offices down and found about 80+ pictures showing the full history of the fleet from steam wagons right through to the DAF’s at the end, I’ll borrow them from him and put them on when I meet up with him again.
John
hiya,
That needs a blast down the M1 when theres plenty of grit and slush spraying about, that what that needs, make it look like a proper lorry earning money and not on parade.
thanks harry long retired.
hiya,
Certainly not true Norm i’ve always been skint and although the inside of the shed was habitable the outside left a lot to be desired if any of my gaffers wanted the outside cleaned they had loads of time to do it when i was at home.
thanks harry long retired.
hiya,
Norm even when on stuff that needed a second man i only asked the laddie to clean the windscreen and wipe the mirrors, i did’nt do cleaning so i really could’nt expect the laddie to clean the outside, although one young fella who i got secondhand from another driver liked a clean shiny motor what a job i had educating him it was nearly a rope job before i could get him to my liking, he did get the message in time.
thanks harry long retired.
Harry, I was told , the cleaner and shiney the cab, the fast it went, I said that is ok if you are on job and finish, and get the same money, but if you go too quick, they will want you to do more for the same money, but would they listen, no, then they would moan they was doing twice as much work, I would say, it is your own fault.
