You’ve got more chance of catching and dying of Flu, than Crona-virus…

Being over hyped by the press and Stoopid-media,

You are actually wrong, the deaths are 3.7% for this virus, there are two types of COVID-19(S & L), it has mutated and will continue to do so.

I look at it that 97 people in a hundred will survive, however it is more virulent in its behaviour and thus easier to catch, it lives longer on inanimate surfaces than most other virus and we are still learning just what humidity and temperature does to it, but it does not get killed by high temperatures, part of this is because it may have originated in Bats and they have a higher core temperature than humans, so the virus will not be killed by a humans immune system raising its temperature, this is really interesting and a wonderful aspect of it.

One of the really great things is that it appears to live longer on bank notes, this is hugely significant for the developing countries.

We are in the early days and I have some information regarding a possible herpes feature, in that the virus may actually live in the host and resurface at a later time…Hugely interesting.

Now, once you understand just how effective this virus could actually be at killing human beings, but allowing other species to live, it is really quite amazing and for some, worrying.

Personally…I feel that only positive outcomes will be experienced, as it rids society of the old and the weak and allows houses to be freed up, so that the younger people who are mostly resistant to the virus are able to have their own house and spend the proceeds of the deaths of loder people, it may actually bring some balance back to society.

I know this will not be a popular view, but it is an altruistic view…I am of the age that it will probably kill me.

So, would it be altruistic to close all hospitals and sack doctors?
I mean there would be more available housing, wouldn’t there?
.
Housing, education and hospital shortages ate NOT the fault of those that require them! They are largely the fault of those that already have them, but deny investment for those following on.
.
Maybe you’re not one of the selfish ones, but possibly you’ve been listening to them too long.

Possibly…I don`t really know, modern life has become too complicated for me in the UK and I will be shuffling off to a third world country to live very soon, the virus thing may make that sooner than anticipated as I have a house on the top of a mountain in Portugal that is horticulturally very productive…So I need not of anything really, other than good health, I have that and I shall protect it…The UK is finished in my opinion.

Could you please hurry up and leave, and don’t forget to renounce your British Citizenship on the way out. Then you can’t come back… Bye.

Just been reading through this thread.

I am now finally understanding why the majority of the public see us all as bellends…

I do say don’t look at stupid figures comparing different mortality rates from dubious internet sources.
DON’T JUST BELIEVE ME!
Go on the www and look at the NHS and WHO and other reliable sources of info.

What, this WHO?

“The exact timing of when cases in China peaked is unclear. While WHO said cases in China peaked and plateaued mostly in late January, the organization’s own data appears to show that cases leveled off sometime during the week of Feb. 14”.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
it levelled out in mid feb over there just as millions of beef links were coming back home from bejing after celebrating their new year…just in time to snotter all over our chicken chop suey this weekend…were all doomed… :open_mouth:

The RATE of new infections in one city may have levelled out.
It has levelled out at about 200 new KNOWN infections per day. In a city virtually locked down. Hardly a non-event.

You’ve got more chance of catching and dying of Flu, than Crona-virus…

Being over hyped by the press and Stoopid-media,

Well maybe the “crona-virus” is not a problem but the Corona one seems to be progressing very well. The containment stage is almost over if it ever began.
There are patients with the virus and they have no idea how they caught it. I wonder just how many more like that are wandering about spreading it?
Then of course we get the people that decide its over hyped and take absolutely no precautions as instructed to by health chiefs. Apparently as the virus spreads people those who ignore the rules and don’t stay isolated will face jail.

jakethesnake:

And this will be policed and enforced by whom exactly? Certainly not our police force which has been systematically starved of money for year upon year. They can barely afford to leave the station and start their engines nowadays.

What will be the criteria for arrest; sneezing or coughing in public perhaps?

You can bet your bottom dollar that somewhere right now there will be a team of people desperately trying to figure out just how they can introduce a tax element to this whole debacle.

Tude’s comment and Judian’s rebuttal raise a disturbing underlying agenda that appears to be gaining momentum; with much hinting going on. The survivors of the WW2 generation are, quite rightly, venerated but their children are being portrayed as surplus to requirements.“It is time for them to shuffle off quietly without causing a fuss, so that the more deserving and productive can benefit without having to subsidise their care”. It goes on… " They [Some of them] have accumulated property and wealth which could be put to better purpose by others, those assets should be sequestrated for the greater good."

We are seeing this attitude around us becoming more and more common, the hinting about allocation of resources to treat coronavirus is just beginning, but only a fortnight ago that Patel woman was pontificating that the ‘millions of unproductive members of the population’ ie. specifically including those over pension age, ‘have chosen not to work but should be working instead to grow the economy’. This encouraging the assumption that those retired Lorry drivers, builders, and others with a significant manual labour element during their working lives’ which has subsequently impacted their health, could quite easily sit at a supermarket till or a call centre desk.

We see it in the ever raising age barrier for drawing the state pension and in the perceived ‘unfairness’ that the young, working population should have to suffer any increase in their own pension contributions ‘to cover the increasing cost of the current elderly.’ We see it in the lack of funding for care. We saw it very clearly and loudly expressed that the grey and silver haired should not have been entitled to vote on an issue ‘more relevant to the young’. We see it in the headlines about hospital bed-blocking by the elderly. Etc etc.

What we don’t see is recognition for the elderly partner’s care of their companion which is not drawing upon state resources, nor do we see any acknowledgement of older parents’ care for grandchildren while the ‘productive’ children contribute to the economy. Likewise no account is taken of the never or no-longer-married children returning to the parental nest because their own finances don’t reach to meeting their housing neeeds. Instead the older parents are viewed as blocking desireable multi-bedroom housing.

The reality in many of the last cases being that a move to smaller less expensive to maintain and heat housing would be welcomed as would the lower rate of council tax. However that view is very non PC, off message and definitely contrary to the current spin which sees the energy consumption as a waste of resources and pollution of the planet.

To return to the revered, let is not forget that while these baby boomers may not be WW2 veterans a reasonable number will be ex Forces from Korea, Malaya, Suez, Indonesia, Aden, Northern Ireland and the Falklands.

Rant over.

Don’t ask me I only read it in the news. It’s amazing though how utterly stupid people react to something like this. It seems they act before they think. A bit like on the road actually.

We have one group that are going out and panic buying (toilet rolls included) I would like to know what they are going to do when they run out of all these goods because the supermarkets will be bare because of all the other selfish buyers. :unamused:

We also have people going about wearing masks that do then absolutely no good whatsoever and now we even have people wearing plastic buckets on their heads.

Then we have all the doubters who laugh and say its all the stoopid media and flu kills more, oh yeah and more starve every year. Why can’t people just take the advice of the health officials ?
At the moment it’s fairly simple and easy to do but people being people will mess it all up as usual.

A couple of years ago, whilst I was still at Brakes - my entire family got ill with what I’ll call “double flu” where it kept going around and around with us re-infecting each other.
My family got it at least three times over the first four months of the year, and I got it twice, where I don’t normally get colds and flu at all… Since Brakes didn’t pay sick pay, I took time off work as “holiday” instead, as I had enough in hand to take.

Fast forward to this year - and unusually no one in this entire neighborhood seems to be getting the coughs and sniffles that one might normally see in the first three months of the year, especially bearing in mind that we’ve had rather a large number of wet and “mild” starts to the year over the past decade…
Even when out and about at public venues - there seems to be LESS coughs and sneezes than usual this year…?

I can’t help but think that this Corona virus thing is nothing more than one of these usual “seasonal bugs” that goes about - but this time around, it has been somehow “weaponized” into a scare story world-wide…?
…Maybe like the Millenium Bug even… :stuck_out_tongue:

Virus Headline.jpg
It doesn’t matter if there is an ulterior motive to our illustrious governments or not - It strikes me as rather odd that Airports and borders were not shut down in the countries already affected straight away, rather than “free movement” allowed to continue to the point that we’re now told that Italy is currently doing a damned good re-enactment of the “Route that Black Death took into Europe” saga during the first half of the 14th century…

Italian Ports - NOT shut down. WHY?

We’re told “Brexit is done” - and yet our borders are still wide open - WHY?
most significantly - people are returning from “infected” countries like Iran and Italy - and are not even being asked any awkward questions at our ports of entry - let alone “Mustered into Quarantine”…

Hardly the actions of an establishment that is taking this entire story seriously - are they?

SO… One wonders what motive is behind this rather “Let it happen” approach our establishment seems to be making here…?

Is the object “To slow the economy”? - If so, then Mark Carney will NOT be “following suit” and dropping interest rates by 50 basis at the next Bank of England meeting!
Is the object to “weaken the NHS”? - If so then Boris will be throttling back on intended cashflow to the NHS - rather than boosting it.
Is the object to “weaponize the NHS” - If so, then double the money TO the NHS - will NOT show any kind of improvement, any deadwood staff got rid of, or “retired” medical staff “recalled” any time soon…
Is it to “crash the stock market” - days after Trump was waxing lyrical over it hitting an all time high? “■■■■ on his chips” as it were?
Is the object to “Precipitate a Recession before November”? - If so, expect numerous criticisms of Trump over the coming weeks, regardless of how few or how many are said to have perished from this “Virus”… Strange how we’re just told “numbers” - with no names… Don’t the family get to go to a funeral, or don’t they know their loved one is deceased yet Hmm? Actually is ANYONE really dead yet? - Other than those elderly and infirm people that normally die during the wet and mild weather during the first three months of the year… "Wot’s blue and f—s Grannies" we used to banter at school - didn’t we?

As for this “SSP on day one” when it is sooooo low an amount…
Who’s gonna go sick and take advantage?

The only people that will “benefit” - will be those already on benefits, who will now not be required to “look for work” any time soon “or lose their benefits” - Right?

There have been 3,250 deaths from Corona virus in two months. Around the world 24,000 people die of starvation every single day. A sense of proportion is needed here I think.

24,000 people from a population of?
7,700,000,000…(April 2019)
Your mortality figure only applies to those already infected. 94,000. (Science Update site 03/03/2020)
You’re mixing up different figures relating to different sets.
.
COVID 19 has maybe a 1%…ish mortality rate accoring to the WHO.
80% may be a reasonable infection rate for a virus with no existing vaccines and no immunity from previous infections.
So, maybe you wanna do the maths with me? Let’s estimate it.
8 billion in the world.
(Call it 7.5 for ease)
80% is four fifths or 4 x 1.5 equals 6 billion.
1%, is (6,000,000,000) knock off two zeros.
60 million dead.
Seems a lot? It is.
Spanish Flu killed 15 or 50 million…from a world population a quarter of what it is today.

I’m not saying all is doom gloom and despair.
I do say don’t look at stupid figures comparing different mortality rates from dubious internet sources.

Not gonna happen. Borders would have been closed worldwide - if there had been any hint of this “Flu Outbreak” being anything similar to the one a century ago.
The question we should all really be asking is “Why fake something like this, at an international level at that?” Who benefits from the economic damage thus caused?

But I ain’t holding my breath on that.

Well, really if we are ever going to get serious about climate change, then what is needed is a virus to wipe out 95% of the world population and for the remaining 5% to go back to living in mud huts- selling mushrooms in paper bags rather than plastic bags and switching to low energy light bulbs isn’t the solution.

So maybe Corona virus will be the planet’s salvation, although I largely suspect that in three months time it will all have been forgotten about.

By 'eck, I never knew there were so many “experts” in the transport world!

I’ve always had prepper tendencies, got a bug out bag and a sizeable stash of tinned fish. These are proving useful given my recent depredations with having to take possible exit from the game due to spinal probs and the huge periods of universal credit based uncertainties.Always popped a tin of mackerel into every shopping trip with a target of a years supply, based on five tins a day.I’ll be morphing into a bloody pollock but hopefully be in a stronger position to aquire alternate food options if the virus really goes apocalyptical.Even just having the nutritional advantage to go sea fishing for bigger fayre would be a plus when the shelves are locusted. :unamused:

Serious question…what would be the best all encompassing face respiratory mask be if the s.h.t.f ?maybe the ADR kit option standard issue wouldn’t cut the Colemans for cv,but what do I know?.Maybe military grade is the way forward, remembering the hideous contraptions I once donned in a short spell with the Territorials yonks ago. They must have improved from 2 decades ago,but you wouldn’t want a used one from ebay I’m guessing? :open_mouth:
