Yep, got it now! Thanks Nathan
Quite a rundown sort of a place I remember but it had obviously been busy in the pastā¦I find places like that enthralling but, at the same time, quite sad to seeā¦
A few of us had a week of backloading from there to Cheltenham I believeā¦I think the sand was chucked about on a cricket pitch or a golf course then rolled in⦠Tidy old job from memory - 4am start, crack on and finish about 1pm, lovely
Hope the job hunting is going well⦠
Piston Broke, got an application form in for a local firm at the moment, but with Xmas theyāre shut 'til Jan 2nd. Got a nice old fashioned style job but work is dead hence me applying elsewhere (and theyāve got Hinos, which Iād like a go on
). Anyhow, I know of a Buckingham based subbie who does sand out of H to Glos sports pitches etc, then backloads type 1 up this way and then either gets a load back Buckingham way or nights out and then resumes.

Hi Nigel
My Dad used to be a haulage contractor with the BIS and started off with a Dodge 6 wheeler he went on to a Leyland Octopus and finally to an ERF. I have an old picture of my Dad (about 1957) and I standing in front of his Dodge I hope that it uploads OK. maybe some āoldā truckers out there may have known my Dad (Doug Oldham?) Cheers Pete

Good company to drive for with excellent pay and working conditions, i was employed at the Oakamoor Quarry mid 70s and did days/nights running to Uxbridge, Camberley, Redhill, Wrexham & Spennymoor with silica sand in 3 compartment tankers.
The small fleet at Moneystone quarry then consisted of 2 ERF Gardner 180 tractor units, 1 ERF 8 wheeler tanker and a 6 wheel Scammel 3 non tip tankers plus a tipping trailer for local work to Johnsons tiles at Longport etc.
There was a small quarry at Bramcote nr Nottingham which supplied sand with a few 4 wheel tippers to local foundries.
Most of the Oakamoor production went to glass bottle factories at St Helens, Worksop and Wigan by rail in open wagons until the line closed, then it was switched to road.
Sadly as John says the Moneystone site is in process of been cleared to make way for a liesure complex with a few hundred log cabins to follow in due coarse. Happy daysā¦
I thought there was only one lorry doing all the work out of moneystone>>>>>>>>>>>>Cannonballā¦ha ha ha

WBB is now Sebelko; Iāve loaded with play sand out of the new site at Godstone (had it called āRedhill Sandā when delivering it to some playground builders). Iāve loaded a couple of times out of Heath and Reach near the Agg Industries pit.
Last time I loaded out of Godstone, there were NIMBYs waving placards near the narrow lane you have to cross. Cleanest quarry Iāve ever been to.
Heath and Reach has rung a few bells, Nathan! Iām sure Iāve been there but Iām damned if I can place it - remind me please?
Near the A5,near Leighton Buzzard Paul; Only been there a couple of times, backloading after delivering stone to Milton Keynes and Aylesbury.
Heath n Reach ringing a bell with me, would that be the one with single road into pit, I used to back load Fullers earth to Black land from that neck of the woods mid 70s. Seem to remember getting stuck regular when empty down there even with difflocks
Thank you fro the History of BIS They was all ways up & Down the A17
