Bridgwater to London for 9am

Hi guys hope you’ve all had a good Christmas and new year.

Next Tuesday - 9th I’ve got to go to London (Hayes, UB3 1BB). It’s purely for pleasure so I’ll be in my car. I am travelling from Bridgwater in Somerset and have to be there for 9am. My concern is traffic at that time of day so I’m a little unsure of what would be a good time to leave. I recon I need to be on the M5 for 6am, but what do you guys recon?

Depends on how strict the timing but if it was me I’d be on the M5 for 5am, 5.30 at the latest.

Tricky trying to calculate car speeds but crack on and have a coffee at reading if you feel your gonna be to early.

Intending M4 or A303? 6am looks about right to me either way, but all it takes is one numpty that’s had 2/3 weeks off to close a lane on either route to make you wish you hit the road at 4am!

As DD says, but I`d be looking @ Heston if you are ahead of schedule, alot can / will go wrong while you guzzle a £5 latte, especially between Reading and the M25…

They are a different type of lemming down there…#beware

When you turn off M4 on to A312 at next roundabout turn right and there’s a huge Toscos with a café there about 400 yards in

Plus with Heston he’s got to go 5miles to Brentford to turn around  Not good at 9ish on a Monday as it queues past services any ways :imp:

Good thinking BatMan…

Good advice from the other posters, it may seem draft but if you leave at 6 am , I’m afraid you will not be in Hayes for 9 am.

If you choose the A303 ,Stonehenge will be jammed both directions at commuting times.
Then the M3 past Fleet Msa builds up from 05.30 am.
Then towards the M25 around Heathrow can be dire and a car park.
If you take the M5 North to Bristol you hit the jams from Port is head to the split of the M5 to the M4 at Aztec .
Before Reading and after there is roadworks then a long queue all the way to the M25 .
I would leave at 05.00 am or earlier.
As others said , one incident on the road will make you late.
Schools are back and everyone back at work.
When schools off , you could leave late and make it.
To avoid the motorways if there is delays take the A4 via Devizes to Hungerford to Newbury to Hayes.

Personally I would book into a motel near to my destination and go down the night before at leisure, save the hassle of rush hour traffic.

I’d tend to aim for no later than 5.30 if it was me, it’s a Tuesday so not as severe as a Monday for traffic but it will be very busy from Reading onwards and it’s been a month since I’ve been up that way admittedly but there’s a long 50 limit somewhere near the A329(m) on the M4.

you can still sneak out the back at Heston, into Cranford. turn right at end of road. left at roundabout takes you back to 312.
i see you are going to Clayton Road I know it well fun in the artic as you will see. if you want a truckstop come off m4 at jnc 5 langley turn right onto a4 there is a cafe about a mile or so on the right. if so when you come out turn right go thru two sets of lights and turn left at third set. follow thru the road goes right then keep going straight, even at the roundabout with all the lights on. keep going straight you will go up over the railway and will see dhl on your left. turn right at the roundabout there. the road bears left and clayton road is next right.
the m4 gets busy from slough (j6) towards m25 around 0630,

If you’re really bothered about it, there are loads of hotels in the outer west London area to cater for the Heathrow demand. You’ll probably find that on a Monday night in January you’ll be able to find one that is reasonably cheap if going the previous evening is possible.

Edit: Missed lolipop’s post to this effect…

Thanks for all the replies guys. I think I’ll now look to leave no later than 05:30. Fingers crossed there won’t be too many problems.

Now, I would leave now. Can’t be too careful with traffic around that there Londinium place.

Get a travellodge or similar near your destination if you manage to get there today.

Heston Services?

Even Stalin would describe it as grim.

Well just in case anyone is interested, my trip went well and boy was it worth it! Left Bridgwater at 05:30 and was there by 08:00. No issues on the return journey either, although the drive home was more fun!
I went to a specialist tuning company called BWchiptune to have my car remapped (2010 BMW E91 330d). Did a lot of research beforehand and it’s payed off. These boys really know their stuff! Jason the owner travels the world tuning BMW’s. They map the cars properly, ie ecu out and their own files written on to it as opposed to just loading on a generic map.
The results speak for themselves - power up from a measured 236bhp to 317bhp and torque up from a measured 413lbft to 497lbft!
If any of you guys are in to your BMW’s and are thinking of getting it remapped, these are the guys to do it.

With my experiance of BMW drivers (not all are like this) did thy fix the indicators as well?

Don’t be stupid, indicators are an optional extra for a BMW, and seldom can an owner afford them.
