BRIDGE STRIKES.

I live in Grantham and am lead to believe it has the most struck railway bridge in the UK.

So think about this, its the most struck bridge in the UK, and the warning signs are still the most basic, why is technology not being used to make it safer, depending on the drivers to ensure they fit isn’t working, lets try something else.

Portadown Thursday

0 The incident happened shortly after 9.30am on the Northway, the main bypass in Portadown.
The HI-AB had been left up and as it approached the Seagoe Road bridge the impact caused the front of the Scania to flip up and hit the underside of the bridge.

Writing on the back of the Halfords trailer is a bit ironic innit ?

Most of us on here bang on about how professional we are and should be paid more for our skills etc, so surely it can’t be that difficult to ensure that we never strike a bridge. All trailers have (or should have)their heights marked up and bridges under a certain height are marked up so what is the problem?

it could be the drivers dont understand english ? or new drivers who need a sat nav so there lost without one and just dont know how to focus on sign posts anymore like we had to ?

it really does beggar belief when i hear or see bridge strikes as there is no defense for a driver. i tend to think drivers follow sat navs anywhere these days even if it means going up duel carrageways the wrong way lol

are you perfect? have you ever made a mistake?

Not perfect, but have not managed to hit a bridge yet.

The Halfords trailers are all marked up for height as well.

Re the above:

Mr Brennan, was found guilty of driving an HGV without due care and attention and was banned from driving for six months, at which point he can apply for a new, and clean licence.

How do they work that out - his licence should not be clean surely?

It’s the press Santa. The same ones who write about juggernaut carnage and when you read on it tells about how driver X sped through villages in his transit juggernaut.

It’s not squeaky clean, it’s clean in the sense that the any totting up points on the slate is wiped clean.

as far as im aware, once your banned, then when you get your licence back, you have another 12 points to play with,no matter how many stamps you have on it…ive always thought it unfair that if joe average does 10000 miles a year, and jo average truckie does 100000-150000 it seems a tad unjust for the truckie to have the same penalty when they do 10 times the annual milage, but then who gives a toss about truckies in the uk anyway?

Liked the chuckle at the end of that vid.

Anyone ever noticed the railway bridge on the A413 near Wendover, near Aylesbury? I went under it the other night and thought it had to be a low bridge even though it had no height indicator (and no warnings on any of the approaching roads). The road zigzags when it goes under. My artic (13’-2" IIRC) was fine but I wouldn’t like to take a double-decker under there.
