Drivers, im sorry but if you dont know your trl Hight ( But you should do ) and not sure of the Bridge Hight, simple…
Slow down start looking ahead and STOP before the Bridge get out of your cab and have a look, get someone to watch you through.
DONT just keep driving at it and hope for the best… NO i am not perfect but been driving HgV / Lgv since 1977. We as drivers get
blamed for enough on the roads without causing more problems for ourselves. I just think we have to much stuff to distract us now. Lets all have a good safe time out there, and think what were doing…
Have a nice day…

I know there’s a height indicator in the cab but does anyone physically check the height when doing the walk around checks, I mean would and intend to… might get some funny looks but I wont be hitting anything low.

all our cabs and trailers are clearly marked up,and we are often checked at the gate on our way out of the yard that we have got the correct height on the indicator.but 1 or 2 slip through the net…i have seen 13’9’’ (the trailer height),on the indicator, rather than the cab height of 14’3’’ no hope is there?
theres bridge strikes, and then theres bridge strikes…beat this one where the guy forgot to put the hiab away and hit the portadown n.i. bridge full on the pipe…the hiab caught the bridge, then the cab shot up and the windscreen/roof hit the underside of the bridge with the unit facing vertical before it dropped back down again, and in true class 1 northern ireland tang fashion,a quick cuppa and a change of skiddies, and back in the saddle again ,beat that if you can.kinda makes whacking the trailer a bit tame by comparison doncha think? .
Think there was bridge strike on A12 near Colchester.
There damage on one of the fly overs with a sign saying damages has been reported to the authorities.

unfortunaley not got any pics but can remember in 1991 a councill refuse lorry being nicked from the depot at oldham and getting wedged under the rail bridge at mumps roundabout after they decided to drive under it with the box raised .the bent railings were still visible and had even been re painted when it was finnaly demolished to make way for the tram lines .caused absolout choas to the railway luckily was around 9pm

that LOW BRIDGE sign is not big enough is it■■?
im with the bridges on this one, they have lousey pay and conditions so i will back them when they go on strike
seriously we had a driver hit a bridge in stoke years ago and when the police turned up they asked him did he not see he signs he said that he was under the height limit they checked the trailer height and it was under what the bridge height sign said it was.apparently the road surface had been replaced the week before and nobody had checked the height of the bridge.our firm got a new trailer for that one and had the bashed trailer repaired

Note to self… Check height daily with measuring stick…end up hitting bridge thats supposed to be higher … Not my fault…
PS does anyone know if the councils or the highways agency re-measure bridge heights after re-surfacing… ?
A decker, under a marked bridge?? Where do they get these cabbages? ? How do they get a licence■■?
Won’t somebody think of the children?
that one wasn’t me - that is 1093 - no idea where that was
I hit 1086 & the bridge said 16’ 3" (well - just caught the corner swerving to miss a car)
