Glad he’s ok, could have been worse. Bruises will soon go, coxic could be a PITA.
Did he have his seat belt on?

The lorry quite obviously wasnt 15 9’…

You can legally go under with a 16’ 9" trailer.

Really.

You really should read the context of the whole sentence old bean.

I’m assuming you’re the fella with no eyebrows and a startled expression on your face who merely read up to “light blue touch paper and…”

yep its astrange one just sitting here trying to figure it out. not being funny but hes been on the wagons for 38 yrs and dosent just drive into bridges willy nilly. suppose it will all come out in the wash.

It’s not a strange one, its quite simple.

Heights shown in a triangle are a caution & heights shown in a circle are a complete no no!

Simple!

no no wot? so back to my original question. are you saying a 15 9 trl wont go under a 15 9 bridge if the height is shown in a circle?

Yes

The DfT official road signs guide says: “No vehicles over the height shown may pass the sign”

Therefore, if the sign says 15’9 and the vehicle is 15’9, in theory, you should be able to assume that you can proceed. I realise that this wasn’t the case, but unless the vehicle measurements were wrong, he should be able to fight his corner.

Good luck - glad you’re Dad’s going to be alright.

^^ This

I was suprised it wasn’t a Scania, not sure if other makes have the same issue as Scania - raise the lift axle by raising the suspension on the drive axle :unamused: = basically increasing overall height by 3"

Most headboards will say “Height 15’9” based on a 1250mm 5th wheel" the 1250mm bit varies I’ve noticed and also not all 5th wheels are the same height, and I never measure mine, so run 3" higher than listed as a rule unless I know the truck / trailer.

i drive scania and its a crap idea how they lift the mid lift. trailer goes up 3" but the mid lift barely clears the road.

that’s because people don’t know how to operate the thing, they just drive round the docks like a limping jack russell. :unamused:

reset the thing.

Doesn’t work, in normal running mode, they run 3" (approx) higher with the lift axle up

mine works fine, i have to drop the air on the drive axle, then reset it.

But isnt that all irrelevant whether the ride height is 3" higher with the midlift up as it was the back of the trailer that hit ■■

And I still can’t get my head around it… Most of the truck was already under therefor most of the force was already through, the trailer must of been proper high at the back to cause the truck to veer off into that pillar.
