Brexit , borders and lorries

Rod McKenzie, the RHA’s managing director, has spoken out on BBC News about the Government’s lack of readiness for the end of the Brexit transition period, after the RHA and other wrote directly to Grant Schapps to call for action to be taken to prepare the haulage industry, and the UK as a whole, for the end of the transition period.

And here is our man’s take on this mess

Yet another leak of a government brexit document. This time, a memo that contains warnings of a number of key risk areas concerning border management. The logistics industry are clear that current arrangements are unmanageable, there’s no plan at all for Northern Ireland, and we face severe disruption throughout the UK

I liked Moorhouse’s comment about Johnson being influenced by Disney movies, but wonder more if it is more “wishing really hard that Tinkerbell is alive”?
I mean, that might account for the current pantomime.
.
Or maybe it is a manifestation of “cargo cultism”?
Johnson makes statements, just a real leader does, and expects them to come true. He makes sweeping claims which he expects to be accurate.
What he doesn’t do is research facts, or make plans, or do anything constructive.
Jus go through the motions, pretend he knows what’s happening…and…hope?

This piece is in todays Southampton Daily Echo.
Well this will give the nimbys something to crow about…

Areas affected by the law change - brought about through a statutory instrument - include Cheshire, Lincolnshire, Liverpool, Devon, East Sussex.29 area’s in total.

Just where are these parking area’s going to be ? There is no reasonable cheap land anywhere on the coast near the ports, what facilities are going to be made available ? Like usual - None. A Ginsters pie and Fanta machine with a bucket to in.
Then Nimby backlash will soon follow. Like at Ashford.

The problem is going to be in the UK as French ports have space to empty a ferry and park people up whilst awaiting clearance but Newhaven, Portsmouth and Dover are stuffed full .
Never mind where the money is coming from to pay for all this .
Better get off my unicorn and back to the bins.

Can someone tell me how much it costs to stand a lorry ( say a tractor / trailer or refeer ) up per day…ive heard around £500 give or take…

There isn`t enough spare cash floating around haulage to absorb extra costs. Since all hauliers will be in the same boat…or in a queue to get on one…rates will surely rise. The extra documentation (even if it is electronic) is not free. The extra personnel, both Gov and private, all need wages paying; they represent an ongoing cost, not a one off. The computer systems are still not designed, let alone up and running.
Someone will have to pay.

The UK consumer will complain about paying more.
The French producer will be made to ■■■■ up the cost by the UK supermarkets, again increasing cost’s for the hauliers as the producers wont pay more - then the transport co goes bust and the UK consumer goes without - Complains to Tesco (others are available) .
The producer uses cheap-ass Polish - Lt- Lv - BY - Ru - fridge hauliers . Voila
You are so negative Franglais !!! Brexit will be fantastic - I have a Unicorn and rainbow on order - The futures market in Unicorn/Rainbow Inc is exploding.

It just keeps getting better- And in the small print… he promises that the Grimsby goalkeeper will be replaced by a purple bin (one for the maoster).

Un***believable…
Or it would be if it was anyone except the serial liar Johnson.
Threatening to cheat on deal, that he himself signed less than a year ago.
Why would anyone waste time talking to him?
How well will talks with any country, on any subject be taken seriously in the future?

Why so worried about the foreign producer and foreign haulier?

Fair comment cav551

Statistically the UK imports loads of fresh produce - mostly on foreign trucks . Yes, British trucks are available at the moment - No agreement on drivers hours and access has been agreed so come Jan 1 who knows, but my point still stands that in the end the consumer will pay more.

thelocal.fr/20200908/brexit … ember-31st

Boris Johnson calls his own Brexit deal rubbish.

You know, this that Theresa May said she would never sign it and no British prime minister would ever accept, but as we all remember BoJo did.
Oven ready deal, ready made .

We knew this day was coming almost a year ago. Once the reality of the brexit withdrawal agreement started to become apparent, the man who boasted of it being a great deal is beginning to disown in. Boris Johnson has said that his own withdrawal agreement doesn’t make sense, and he somehow expects the EU to do something about this.

Apparently the Uk will break International law in a ‘specific and limited’ manner to get the Brexit deal to work?

Who will want to trade with us if we keep going with this…

Disobeying international law… I would think Churchill is spinning in his grave…

If you old muppets didn’t vote yes to joining the EU in the early 70’s then none of this mess would have happened

Another intelligent post from the forum snowflake…

Posting on a thread he claims not to have read is a bit like voting for something that has no benefits.
