Breaking the Ice

A few days ago my wife and I threw an xmas party that we hold each year at our house, we invite our usual friends and work colleagues. I invited a whole range of people including my current and ex lorry driving friends. To my surprise a lot of my current coach driving colleagues including the boss turned up. Everyone had a wonderful time and all mixed extremely well considering the differing backgrounds. It really broke the ice for me at my firm as I only run into people for brief periods, anyway it has given me real sense of belonging through this party and acceptance from my new colleagues. Has anyone ever had such a meetup from this forum? I know I have an inquisitive mind with regards to people on here and certainly would like to actually meet the interesting characters I have come accross on this forum. If this happened I wonder what the forum would end up like. More friendly towards others, more interesting conversations, more posts than usual etc, etc. Have you got any favorite members on here that you are inquisitive and would like to meet?

You should never meet your heros. They might disappoint you. Merry Christmas.

^^^^^^^ that, and I also have no interest in meeting a bunch of spotty teenagers. That is, if they would get permission from their mum to go out…

^^^^    oh you old cynic you.

I’ve met a couple of like minded lads on here who have became mates over the years.

As for anybody else,.there are a couple of guys on here who kinda intrigue me, mainly because we are so different in our opinions, thoughts,.character and how we react to stuff.

I’d maybe like to .meet my old TN mate Franglais (even though he HATES me  ) maybe over a pint,.just to discuss differences in a friendly way.and to see if we actually do have any common ground after all.
(I’d maybe have to take some back up  as I do tend to ■■■■ him off on here, so I suspect he would make some arrangements for a welcome committee for me…)

Or maybe not,.he doesn’t appear to live in my sort of world…and it would be to use one of his favourite phrases… ‘Against the law’.

Maybe like to (term used loosely) meet Winseer, to see if he really is a bit odd, paranoid,.and neurotic as he appears on here to me…the guy is a curiosity.
But I would have to make sure and arrange an ‘‘unexpected’’ phone call after 15 minutes,.calling me away.

Oh aye,.I’m forgetting dozy,.who wouldn’t want to meet him, .just to see if dozy is real or a persona…I’m going with the latter btw.
Luke, who seems an intelligent sort of bloke,.I reckon we could have a good conversation .

A couple of lads who are usually on the same wavelength as me,. MAN for one,. and that Beanie guy who is always friendly to me. and always offers to buy me a pint…I often wonder if it’s a trap,.and it’s really somebody like Rob ■■■■ K in one of his many guises wanting to do me over with his mates  …( …I miss him on here btw, in an odd kind of way,.I oddly enjoy getting a load of stick and abuse, it keeps the forum alive. )
So come back Rob, in one of your many I.d.s.

Some on here do take things far too ■■■■ seriously though :unamused: , it’s only a forum ffs, :unamused: .
I do spend a bit of spare time on here, and know I ain’t everybody’s cup of tea , I’ve had some ( tbf deserved) stick on here, for instance I know you can’t discuss PMs, but I’ve even had a veiled and implied death threat ffs :open_mouth:  ,
Couldn’t sleep for weeks…Aye right. :unamused:

So anybody who loves me or can’t ■■■■ stand me on here,.(I ain’t fussed either way btw,
But to everybody that is on here…)
Have a good Christmas with whoever you spend it with. :sunglasses:
Cheers.
Rob

One of the good things about this job is you have to speak with people you don’t know on a daily basis. When it comes to things like social gatherings when you chuck a load of us all in a room it means you don’t get the silence you normally do with a room full of strangers. You do however leave wondering just how many people went through that embassy window at the same time though.

Was a fruit bowl and car keys involved?

Party round my house tonight. All drivers welcome but must follow some simple rules.

1 - Park car in street.
2 - Put wheel clamp on car.
3 - Ring bell and wait for moody host to let you in.
4 - Deposit car keys into locker.
5 - Make way to drivers reception and find yourself a flea infested chair covered in the sweat and bogies of a thousand slobby truckers.
6 - If you want to be awkward and go to the toilet there is of course a freezing cold portaloo in the garden.
7 - Failing to adhere to any of these rules will result in you being banned from future attendance which I know would be devastating for you.

Merry xmas. Hope you have a great time.

Well reading this reply was amusing to say the least. Definately you have got the jist of the post and have answered admirably. To be perfectly honest with you I fail to see how you would have annoyed anyone enough to arrange a lynch mob. Great reply and I wish you a Merry Xmas.

I’ve worked many places and most places been a case want so something at Xmas organise it yourself few of drivers used meet up on pub for a few drinks. And mostl of the conversation was was just all about working .driving places been to directions etc. Did my head in so never went again.

Yet on other hand worked for a smallish manafacturing company.
Every Xmas they hired a private box at the races. free food drink etc was great . No chat about work got to know the 2 other drivers office staff better was a happy work environment.

I fully get where you are coming from with this, Ours was a private party and no talking shop was the rules of engagement. Everyone was merry and having fun all away from the work place. I have attended “party’s” like you mention, not for me those types.
Merry Xmas

Hey mate there are some strange people on here trust me.
I also can not see how I annoy people as I am such a nice type of guy…and modest with it.

‘Lynch mobs’ do happen by the way, proven by the scar on side of my head done with a boot, that looks like a ‘Nike’ logo, that I was presented with in my youth,…after I upset somebody then also (and aparentlly his mates) while on a door. :unamused:
Have a good un btw.

This is above my head but I do wish you a Merry Xmas.

I’m not one for mixing outside of work. It’s not that I’m antisocial, just that my time out of work is my time away from work to do things with my friends and family. I’ll still get on, have a laugh, chat to colleagues on the blower etc etc but I’m also fairly straightforward, keep my nose out of others business, have no interest what runs so and so gets or what time such a person finishes etc etc and if people can’t work out that I’m not there to grass, score brownie points or get pats on the back then I’m not convinced a party at my place will change that and to be honest I’m not overly bothered if it does (which goes back to my tike with my friends and family etc)

We used to have a trucknet Christmas party (not at Christmas mind, that’s what everyone would be expecting…) I still have the Daf beach towel that I ‘won’ in the auction

That is very understandable. I had my reservations of inviting work collegues and the boss along but he is such a nice chap and I knew he would mix well with the other guests. This was a pure social christmas gathering and was to break the ice with those I didn’t know that well. It turned out extremely well and we all had a gay and merry time.
Merry Xmas to you.

Indeed there was a regular TNUK christmas party, I met several wonderful people, had a good giggle and was able to put a face to forum user names. I vaguely recall loosing my shirt at one, all in the name of charity. There was frequent discussion in the years following about organising another but due to lack of sponsorship for the free bar, and people’s work commitments post Christmas it never happened again
