Has anyone ever had such a meetup from this forum?

We used to have a trucknet Christmas party (not at Christmas mind, that’s what everyone would be expecting…) I still have the Daf beach towel that I ‘won’ in the auction

Indeed there was a regular TNUK christmas party, I met several wonderful people, had a good giggle and was able to put a face to forum user names. I vaguely recall loosing my shirt at one, all in the name of charity. There was frequent discussion in the years following about organising another but due to lack of sponsorship for the free bar, and people’s work commitments post Christmas it never happened again

I wasn’t really interested in having a party…but.
FREE bar you say?
Maybe I could be persuaded
You’d need a couple of big lads as ‘security.’ I reck, it gets heated enough on here,.never mind a load of drivers that have argued in the past all full of free drink.

Be bloody fun though

Nah,.really CBA anymore tbh…, still got the d/head zero tolerance as always, which has got me involved when younger more times than I care to remember, where as nowadays I just walk away,.shake my head and go to the bar and get another pint. .

I go out with mates but we’re getting fewer & fewer , Dave went two months ago ( cancer ) & got that call you dread from Steve terminal cancer ) , gutted isn’t 1 % of how I feel , I guess where all in our 60,s + but it still feels unfair , yes I guess will get stuff as we get older , but terminal cancer is ■■■■
Been out today with mates but it’s was sad more than a enjoyable drink , Steve’s news really knocked us all sideways
Remember us all having a great time not that many years ago , I guess that’s what you have to hang onto , memories , how lucky you had mates like them
Enjoy your Xmas / new year , but I’m not in the mood for it now

iirc it was sponsored by the previous owners of the forum.
Various raffle prizes were donated by several companies that advertised in the trade magazines and on the forum banners

You might have to keep an eye on your buddy, as he apparently has a slight reputation with the ladies at christmas parties

The North East Drivers have a regular meet up two of three times a year.
We never all worked at the same firm, but, we knew each other from transport cafes, overnight stops, and mutual customers, plus job changes.
I’m not looking through rose tinted specs, the job was hard, often dirty, and at some companies the motors and maintenance were crap, but we all helped each other, and regularly made arrangements to meet up for the night out.
It’s totally different now, driver often don’t even get out of the cab and talk to each other never mind socialise.
Our regular gatherings were the result of one of two of us being invited as guests to a Xmas “do” at Van Hee Tranport. It progressed from there. Unfortunately due to the march of time, not as many are still around to attend, but we still get up to thirty attendees , particularly at the Xmas “do”.
It’s scheduled for Wed 28th December. I’m really looking forward to it.
Merry Xmas everyone, regards Kev.

Have you got any favorite members on here that you are inquisitive and would like to meet?

No. Well, maybe Carryfast because he is a bit of a enigma.

Tell me more

Use the search button
iirc it involved a works Christmas party, the bosses wife, the dustbin around the back and ultimately a P45.
It takes “breaking the ice” to a whole new level
