ianyng:
A bod from DAF UK was on the phone as well this morning, and they seem very keen to get the motor put right!
I’m wondering if thats because I’ve been talking to Dave Young at Truck & Driver and Lucia at Commercial Motor??
When we get home we will be planning our next trip - we thought about missiles to Cuba - what do you think?
Glad that all seems to be panning out now, and that DAF seem intrested in good publicity, and may help you get back on the road
As for this Cuba thing its a shame that bloke that used buy large metal pipes seems to be lying low, now what his name, that wouldve been a way of indulging your spiriit for adventure Ithink that may Rob and Ian are right on this
irrespective if it’s hazourdous or not,it still require’s tremcards to move the dam freight. And if you had your adr then you’d know this and so would Ian.So i’ll leave it with you since you know best.
Surely that is the whole point, if its hazardous it needs tremcards, if its not then it doesnt, and if it isnt hazardous who would generate them, and what would they write on them.
nature of danger. if a box full falls on you it will hurt {wear a hi-vis}
To my knowledge which is limited on the subject of bullets, dont you need to put them in something called a gun for the danger to become real. so packed in crates in the back of a lorry fairly harmless. and any explosive agent contained within each bullet would constitute limited quantaties. just a thought
Ian, I emailed those 3 contacts for you as requested, giving them a brief outline of your circumstances and directing them to this thread and also asking them to contact you on your mobile. I’ve not received any replies back from any of the emails so did they contact you at all ? I hope so
I take it its not just a couple of pallets of ammo then?
Say a 40t truck loaded with a 20t payload of Ammo for HUNTING in NORTHERN CYPRUS
Ian stated in the Euro forum “that it was going to be a regular run for us”, I don’t believe there is that much deer/wild boar etc to be hunted in Cyprus
If it says anything like 5.56mm/7.62mm “short” calibre on the ammo boxes then its far from hunting ammo, more like military hardware

It’s not that there are loads of things to hunt, but the fact that they arn’t very good shots due to lack of practice as most of the ammunition is sitting in Bulgeria.
I’d get more suspicous when they ask Ian to take a full load of machine guns to Northern Cyprus.

I remember seeing a programme on TV about how at this time of the year they all turn out to blast [zb] out of the migrating birds, all those ones that have spent the summer in our back gardens and are heading for warmer climates. The Maltese are big on that as well.
Of course the ammunition being used for hunting, lt’s the open season on flying pigs in Northern Cyprus.
Shhhhs! Elma Fudds out there hunting Wabbits
Kill the Wabbit! Kill the Wabbit

hat will cure the bird flu problem getting back to the uk, but then again they got no bullets
A former British colony, Cyprus received independence in 1960 following years of resistance to British rule. Tensions between the Greek Cypriot majority and Turkish Cypriot minority came to a head in December 1963, when violence broke out in the capital of Nicosia. Despite the deployment of UN peacekeepers in 1964, sporadic intercommunal violence continued forcing most Turkish Cypriots into enclaves throughout the island. In 1974, a Greek-sponsored attempt to seize the government was met by military intervention from Turkey, which soon controlled more than a third of the island. In 1983, the Turkish-held area declared itself the “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus,” but it is recognized only by Turkey. The latest two-year round of UN-brokered direct talks - between the leaders of the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities to reach an agreement to reunite the divided island - ended when the Greek Cypriots rejected the UN settlement plan in an April 2004 referendum. Although only the internationally recognized Greek Cypriot-controlled Republic of Cyprus joined the EU on 1 May 2004, every Cypriot carrying a Cyprus passport will have the status of a European citizen. EU laws, however, will not apply to north Cyprus. Nicosia continues to oppose EU efforts to establish direct trade and economic links to north Cyprus as a way of encouraging the Turkish Cypriot community to continue to support reunification.

My questions are these:-
How can you get customs paperwork for a load going to a country that dosn’t legally exist?
How does the government sanction the export of weaponry & ammuntion to an illegal fighting force?
Why are the EU pushing for Turkish membership when they are illegally occupying a fellow member state?
I assume all the trade is done through Turkey.
The Turkish military went in to stop an illegal coup attempt, but the Turkish Cypriot Security Force (GKK) now provide the military force. So there is no Turkish occupying force.
Turkey refusing to reconise Greek Cypriot controlled Cyprus is one of the problems with thier EU membership.
Although I thought that Cyprus wouldn’t be allowed in the EU until the island was unified.

Well thats answered my question
Apart from the vehicle’s & loads final destination is Northern Cypress not Turkey so the load is being exported to a non-recognised country.
p.s that link you put in says it’s a Middle eastern country with a Mediteranean climate.
I would have thought it was a European country with a Mediteranian climate
Spardo !..i am not being condescending as usual like you infer…i am merely being a trucker and try to help fellow truckers with routes and planning as do many of my fellow friends on this site.
When somebody wants to travel to a country they are not familiar with, it is obvious from previous posts, that they are seeking directions, and get a lot of help from this site.
Ian did not ask for any help for this trip, and like i always say, i dont know all the answers, but if he had asked for help, i would have given him what information i had to hand.
Like i said, i dont believe his problems are over yet…for he has to get into turkey which as a lot of drivers on this site will testify, is not an easy task, and made even more complicated by the load he is carrying.
I did jump to conclusions at the beginning, because i did not understand what was happening, Ian has now clarified the position, and i now understand the situation better, not that its any of my business, but as stated, just trying to be of help. so dont get on your high horse, and slag me off, for when you have as much experience as i have on international routes such as the eastern bloc and middle east, maybe you will have the right to critisise.
and i do wish ian the best of luck.

It’s reconised by Turkey and there are no sanctions about exporting stuff to Northern Cyprus. The place exists so it must be reconised as something, maybe just Cyprus. When it come to making money certain political barriers can be overcome.
Told you is was a CIA site, not known for there grasp of geography the Americans, (Joke before I get invaded, P.S. Dear President Norfolk very near Vladivostok)
Cyprus is at the very Eastern End of the Med, well into Asia only a short distance to Syria, Yes I got my school boys big Altas of the world out, In fact I think it might be the School girls edition, most of the countries are coloured pink.

Yet we have Trucky YET AGAIN being damned condescending … Trucky, if we are going out of Spain, Italy, France, Germany or Benelux, do we have to ask you the way ■■?
although he doesn’t need me sticking up for him and i don’t always agree with him - bob has done more miles in reverse as the old saying goes, than you (or me) have going forward - so have a bit of respect i’d suggest
You beat me to it Neil
I sent Ianyng quite a few pm"s regarding this job, all the pms i sent were from Biggles, as he goes down that way quite a bit, (he does 8 weeks away at a time so he couldnt post on here when the subject came up). i was surprised that nothing had been posted by Truckboy until after Ian had left.
Good luck with the rest of the journey Ian.
