Brake Brothers Multi drops work?

Well as you may know was made redundant last week, have been offered a job with Brake Bros, its on there multi drop run around Cambridgeshire, although been told they have a small condensed area that you stay in all week, unlike our DBC day guys who were all over the place!!

Anyone on here from Brakes give me a run down on the work, conditions, Pay etc all the usual info!

Not done Multi drop for about 20 yrs so gonna be an eye opener i guess for the first few weeks!! how do you fit your break into that sort of day?

When I see a Brakes motor pull up the driver gets out and runs .You would keep fit in this job.

You’ll be fitter in a few months time, done a bit on agency and it was mainly pubs, restaurants that type of thing with cages and you had to unload them aswell.

Knew it was gonna be a handball job, but its the only perm job ive found so far & start next Tuesday, and needs must,Got to pay the bills, dont want to rely on agencies as so unreliable.

At least i can look around for class 1 work while im working & earning!!

No go with Culina Haverhill then ?

It’s a nightmare on days, a breeze on nights. Nice bunch down at Grantham depot.

Trucks generally scruffy inside but mechanically sound. As an agency driver a waste of time because of low rate and short hours, many easier ways of earning a living for better money in the Grantham / Lincs area.

When i had the interview few weeks back, i was told Sun/thurs nights, but when i got there it was 5/3 shift nights. Not what i wanted, but since then all this DBC stuff hit the fan, so i phoned Culina back to ask if the 5/3 shift was still available and they are getting me back for interview end of month!

Next time im at brakes uddy i’ll try and sneak a picture of this one driver in particular he is a multidrop driver but he must weigh about 50stone i kid you not. So if he can do it…

I worked for brakes at their Thorpe depot years ago, it’s a job that will certainly keep you fit, I used to do London most days and it was hard graft, up and down stairs with 2x 25kg on your shoulder or big catering packs of beans. The money was decent but it’s salary and they get their pound of flesh out of you. When I started all the good runs we’re sown up by the lads that have been there years so I had to put up with whatever was going.

Used to deliver to schools, restaurants, office canteens, subway sandwich shops.

As has been said the motors aren’t the best but we used to have a fitter from rygor commercials on site in the mornings to fix any defects.

That’s the pattern I do and I like it, the 3 days off gives you a nice break, plus if you want some o/t you can still have 2 days off.
The downside is you work your share of weekends but throughout the year you will get more days off than a Mon to Fri man will.

[zb] that i would take me chances and keep looking loads of jobs tilbury way just get on docks and ask my mate started 3 weeks ago by doing just that ex maririme 58 plate mega merc box work 500 in bin a week piece of ■■■■

Brakes is all handball / sack barrow work. No tail lifts there.

They have tail lifts.

Not round here, unless they’ve refleeted them recently.

Yup, all the ridged trucks have a tail lift and probably 90% of the trailers as well.(Grantham depot)

One other thing worth mentioning, don’t assume you will always be in an Arctic, just to mess with your head occasionally you might be out in a class 2

Saw a Brakes lad unload at an hotel a few weeks ago.

All I’ll say is I wouldn’t do it for twice the money and half the working hours… :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

I would put it in the same catorgory as working with tilts out of the docks, pita and easier ways to earn a low wage for sure.

I’ve got a feeling he ain’t going to bother taking the job after these negative comments.

It’s easy to turn your nose up when you have work. I think the OP has the right idea, it’s a permanent job with a regular wage coming in, take it whilst sorting something else, even if you start then leave a month later for better things.

Your right, im gonna take it for now cause its a perm job and im about to move so need a perm job for mortgage puposes, once ive moved i’ll be looking for class 1 work again, although this Brakes job is only 25min from home so nice and local!

Had 2nd thoughts about the Culina job, gonna knock it back, worked out the shifts on a calendar, and you dont get many full weekends at home, no point being off on Tue,weds Thurs if everyone else is working!!!
