hi how is everybody it’s been quite on here last 6 years

I have been researching Chris Metcalfe Ltd from Keighley as well as reminiscing about my 30 years in haulage around Keighley and Bradford and can recall several drivers who were only ever referred to by their nicknames, and for the life in me I cannot remember their actual names; Plastic Boots; Rughead, Burglar Bill; Geordie. They all worked for either Keighley or Bradford hauliers. can anyone shed any light■■?

Burglar Bill was Billy Burns,union man worked a Henry Longs with Peter Peggy O Neal

Further to my research for Chris Metcalfe, here is the list of the original 21 members of the Bradford hauliers federation in 1963, but the newspaper excerpt had the edge of the page missing, so who was the company following Jennings Road Transport - T. B. Mor■■?: Alan Transport. Armitage Transport Co., J. C. Ashworth Ltd., Bell’s Transport Services. Crow Bros. (Transport Services) Ltd., R. Dennison and Sons Ltd., Arthur Dewhirst Ltd., J. C. Fielder (Haulage) Ltd., Haley (Haulage) Ltd., W. Jones and Sons Ltd., Jennings Road Transport, T. B. Mor??t. F. Newton. R. Smith (Haulage). Walls Shipping Ltd., W. C. Forder. J. Gore and Sons. C. It now appears that “Jennings” Road Transport is incorrect, but the missing haulier is T. B. Morphet. There was no Jennings listed in Bradford.

sat and talked to another driver, the cafe,s was always full and not much seating space.
i think he did one of his dirty deeds in a block of flats i took the bricks to on Oak ave just off maningham lane

Believe I actually spoke to him while sitting in the cafe out back of Fielders/Chapmans at Fitzwilliam St. I only remember because he told me he used to carry a hammer when out at night. Thinking of a 2lb hammer I asked how he could hide that. He said it was a wheeltappers hammer and he had a hole in his trouser pocket so the handle hung down his leg inside the trouser leg, weird or what. As he left I asked one of the others there, Con Tyson I believe, he told me he was called Sutcilffe. Only remembered the name as one of the Fielder/Chapman drivers had that name.

He worked for a company from Baildon , he drove a red and white Ford Transcontinental i can’t remember what the firm was called Clarkes maybe? . He lived on Garden Lane Heaton which was quite a good area at the time totally different now. I was young when he started but remember my mum and dad getting pulled in the car on a saturday night by police not interested if he’d had a drink just trying to catch the ■■■■■ Dark Shadow casts a poor outlook on the police but with no DNA then and the Sunderland ■■■■■■■ it made their job a whole lot harder. He contributed to the death of 2 policemen and a victims father who died of a broken heart. He should have swung and i have my doubts about his wife knowing nothing. Him coming home in the middle of the night and putting the washing machine on ■■?

He did work for Clarke’s, he ran out of Kirkstall Forge, I did his job for a week when he got lifted, I worked for John Moran, Bradford, then.

that foden i posted was new to jefferies of Otley cause it was wrong shade of green they cancelled it. Tony @ transkwick bought it Richard firth drove it from new then john mclusky drove it. its now a show truck


how remembers thisfrom Stanley road garage. owner told me when i was going to buy this in 2003 that peter Sutcliffe used to drive this saviem when Stanley road used to service Clarks transcontinentals
