Bradford hauliers

Sum nice pics there in that Wilsons video Les.
And from a time when it was considered a bit sad to take photos of the firms motors.
That’s the boss man at 1:58 isn’t it?

Indeedy so! Have you found anything about the many own - account operators round Bradford?
Apart from Doulton / Solaglas - of which I have seen little - there were lots of others such as Sylvania, New Plan,
Crookes, Interface, Tanks and Drums etc.

Some good photos there Les , Colin Connolly lived on the same street as me he started with a Saviem and then bought an ERF moving on to a F88 then 2 DAFs before the Foden Colin Craven drove for him . He worked for Leathers before that with a V8 Mandator then a Scania.
I remember the Scania drawbar from the bottom of Thornton Rd near Grattan Rd Pattchetts?
I cant make out whos driving the Wilsons motor

I remember Colin’s wagons but not the Saviem, when I worked for John Moran we had a bit of the yard at city road, Colin used to park there he was subbing for Hoyers on the lager tanks and would drain of the dregs into a drum and Mrs Moran would sit in the office supping the flat, warm lager.
Think the Wilsons driver is Jimmy ?.
Here’s another couple, think Robert Smith drove RAK121M, and laughing boy Top Cat [Tony Kelly] the six legger.

I think Colin had the Saviem around `74 it was blue with a white stripe around the middle ,it was his first lorry. He was in partnership with a big bloke with a beard named “Hoss”? they traded as C and A Transport at the time Colin and Alan. The Saviem was in very similar colours to Nickersons Fuels.
Robert worked with me at Colemans a top bloke he ended up with his own Magnum working for Hainsworths ,and T.C what a character both sadly no longer with us

Still don’t remember the Saviem but Hoss yes and the C & A, brain fade. Les.

I don’t think he had it long he then bought the F88 and an ERF , I think it was brand new and was either M or N registered

My dad got 1 brand new at Longs Les , it was a 180 Gardner and a 6 speed DB box , a J reg i think . It ended up as a shunter at Courtaulds at Great Horton, a pile of crap is how i think he described it and thats after coming off a 59 Mammoth major and drag 38mph , i think they were still buying Mandators at the time and it wasnt long before the 1418s started arriving.

I quite liked my time driving Atki’s 180 + DB box, you just couldn’t push them but we certainly did a lot of work and miles in them, did you notice the Atki’s reg were the same, I started at Edwards Bell, then it went Nuttall’s notice City Road, Bradford on cab door, then it went Renwicks , good enjoyable job and the money was ok. Les.
