“Here here”
^^^^^^ you aren’t that bloke who used to be in “Porridge” are you?
I have never read a case where a driver fell asleep at the wheel for driving 20 hours or more with no rest.
In the 80’s and 90’s it was the fuse being pulled or crocodile clips to drive on rest mode. The authorities soon learnt the tricks so drivers became more inventive in hiding switches in coffee machines or in the controls for the cab ventilation.
Coffee money was offered.
Do that now in the Basque or Catalan area of Spain, the fine would be 20,000 euro fine for the driver and the employer gets the same fine.

some time back boyle transport was in the magazines. 14 in court i think. (drivers and directors).
i had a brief chat to one of boyles drivers on the newhaven-dieppe ferry about 2 months ago. he said he was due in court, and a lot of drivers had quit boyles. but i don’t remember when he said the court case was up.
so any news would be interesting.

Thirteen drivers working for a Northern Ireland haulage firm have admitted falsifying their tachograph records.
But their three bosses at Boyle Transport Ltd - Patrick Boyle, 64, Mark Boyle, 35, and Neil Boyle, 29 - pleaded not guilty at Carlisle Crown Court (FRI) to conspiring to make the false tacho readings, saying they had no idea what their drivers were doing.
They also denied aiding and abetting 15 drivers to falsify their records.
Patrick Boyle, MD of the Newry, County Down, firm, also pleaded not guilty to perverting the course of justice by attempting to dispose of tachograph vehicle units.
The case will be hear early next year in a trial that is expected to last about five weeks.
The drivers, who like their bosses were all released on bail, will be sentenced at the end of their employers’ trial.
Two other drivers also face charges of falsifying records, but one was in hospital and the other on holiday. They will enter their pleas - expected to be guilty - on September 10.
The men, all employed by the firm which operates a fleet of more than 20 Scania trucks throughout the UK and mainland Europe, were charged following a joint VOSA and police inquiry sparked by the seizure of five of the company’s wagons by police in Penrith, ■■■■■■■■ in October 2008.
All the charges relate to alleged tachograph offences between November 2007 and November 2008, but no details of the alleged offences were given in court
there is a member on here who could enlighten us to the going’s on at boyles.
Still see them a lot, quite often parked up, so poss took heed to there past problems…
20 Scania trucks is it only me that notices this marque qre top of the haulier list
Odd how “bosses” don’t know what is going on within their company. Could explain why so many go down the pan.
was 1 parked in truckers rest on monday night when i got there i had 11 off an he was still there when i left curtains still closed so they must be changing there ways
Pj And his son have since changed their please to guilty and will be sentenced end of this month 26th/27th april.
After the incident in question they did change their way of doing things but a few of the drivers still kept doing things the same, as has now been admitted it can be said that the 3 accused were fully aware and complicit in law breaking and coercing their drivers to keep running.
I have worked for Boyle on 2 occasions and although work ethics and drivers hours were broken I found the Boyles Pj Mark Neil and John to be nice fellas by all accounts, dont get me wrong I had my run ins with them but on the whole they were not the worst I have worked for.
It has been said the drivers who were caught in this case are looking at jail time, so are the Boyles, he did change albeit too late, but to put 20+ drivers on the dole surely that cant be good.
