Boss should buy sat-nav

Honked:
hahahahahahahahahaha

Can the mods please put a limpers section on here so I don’t get sucked in to pointless drivel.
I am so glad I don’t do RDC’s as the mortality rate would skyrocket.

FTFY.

I’m thinking, if your boss insists you need a sat nav you could try to argue that the sat nav is PPE. Admittedly this is a very long stretch, but since the sat nav can in theory navigate you away from weak bridges, stop you going down dangerously narrow lanes and hopefully prevent you from hitting your head on low bridges, then it is personal protective equipment, eg: it’s protecting your head from falling truck roof as the railway bridge caves it in!

Therefore if it’s PPE, generally your boss should supply said article of PPE and thus he / she should provide you with a sat nav.

Yeah this does exclude the notion that you’re supposed to read the blinking signs, but they might think it’s the most unusual excuse they’ve ever had for needing a sat nav and give you one…or they might drop you from the first floor office window onto said head, so make sure you’ve got the supplied hardhat on!

Gee thanks  You saved my skin there

I, like many others, have spent years learning the craft of trucking, I can only thank the good lord that these idiots weren’t allowed to get behind the wheel when all you had was a bag of 10p’s and a public phone box. Transport would have crumbled.

 I’m with you there mate.
I can’t believe some of the ‘quality’ I meet from time to time behind the wheel of an artic.
Thank Christ they are still in the minority…well up to now anyway.

Is it so hard to drive truck in UK or people are simply wining like babies? Don’t you get directions from dispatch for pick ups and drop off’s? For the driving from or to a certain place you need truckers atlas.
I would love to see British driver in EE delivery without sat nav, after that he/she will be praising the Lord for British infrastructure and road signage

Its the sat nav that gets the blame each and every time a truck ends up in a narrow road , under or through a bridge, down the railway tracks . Crack on "driver "

We managed no problem in the EE without satnavs just asked same as I still do, the way you go on you would think that it is only drivers in the UK that use them, everybody uses them and the same problems that they create in the UK they create in the rest of the EE just take a look on the web for the destruction caused by Wabergers drivers, everytime I see one of their vehicles it has a sat nav in

This is quality. Best laugh I’ve had in days. Throw a stone at any foreign reg’d truck at a services, and you probably find at least 2 sat navs in the windscreen… And a laptop… :unamused:

Company I work for put in a system called microlise in all units sat navbuilt in is ok
Breaks down a lot or battery gets low then turns off so it is crap

id say its a personal choice, unless the company specifies it,then arguably its up to them, but why wouldn’t you have your own anyway.? I use a satnav all the time abroad, and mostly in the uk unless I know exactly where the drop is and use it t confirm my guess the last Cpl of miles,…why wouldn’t you use one, plus its handy just in case you go round a bend to find, road closed.divert…saves trying to do it and drive at the same time…the difference is…having the ability not to need it as a crutch to start with.if it hadn’t been invented, then its a atlas, and a-z…plus a bit of gumption.block the road, and ask a taxi worked well abroad before they invented satnavs.ffs you see trunkers with them, and they must do their 1 braindead changeover every single night exactly the same way…usualy they have them on without the night dimmer on . :unamused:

dozy:
Good point , there not cheap that’s for sure,

The sat nav is because Britain has very narrow streets and everything is the opposite way of the continent. Not that I make excuse for them, simply people grew lazy this day.
The laptop is for entertainment, 4-6 weeks in the truck.

In 21 century most drivers are sissy’s, can’t drive without sat nav even if their life depend on it :smiling_imp:
Always have used paper map and help me God i always will, in a car or truck regardless of the country or the continent.

+1…theres always a use for maps…try wiping your bum with a tomtom when your caught short… :open_mouth:

Because drivers become brain lazy when comes to directions, maps etc. relying solely on sat nav sooner or later will gets you in a lot of trouble when it brakes down.
Watching air crash investigations experts say, relying to much on gadgets and computers will lesser your skill and knowledge over time which will lead to failure.

The best thing about a sat nav is that when the phone rings or you are booked in somewhere, the sat navs are accurate enough to tell him that you are 40 minutes away or that you know you have time to stop for a sleep en route.

yon new fool in the office said " BS1 2BS , Asbestos Technology" and put the phone down .

i rang back " dya want it 1st or 2nd class ■■"

“wodya mean fool driver ?”

"well you gave me a postcode so obvious even to an idgit with a puter you want load posting to em Einstein "

“thats the delivery address”

“OK , if u dont text me address in next 5 minutes ill bring the load back to yard and you can post it to em yerself , timothy .”

text address arrives , delivery done , everyone happy , end of story .

Have you not got a truck road map ? I use mine for all my route planning .
I wouldn’t buy a sav nav personally, they can be unreliable and what if there is no signal !

When was the last time you checked out satnav, they are no way unreliable and the only time I don’t get a signal is in tunnels such as Dartford or the Blackwall,I think they are a must for all drivers alongside a good map and pure drivers instinct.Thank you.

I disagree. I’ve had mine lose signal on Hammersmith Broadway, panicked and ended up going to Kingston via Wimbledon. Same again in the city centre of Birmingham with similar results.

Which one have you got,mines a snooper,excellent.

strange I know a load who got throughout most of EU without sat navs, a Europe map was enough and a bit of the local language got me through ok.

The last time I checked out a sat nav was the end of January this year, as it happened , someone else was driving & wanted to use their satnav , which by the way on quite a few routes there are 'black spots’regarding no signal, so needless to say the satnav was doomed  :frowning: :unamused: , & out came the map
There have been loads of trucks taken unsuitable roads & got well jammed in , thats probably why they started to put the 'dont follow the satnav ’ signs up at end of the unsuitable roads for hgv’s.
:bulb: So yes , satnavs are still unreliable

There are still loads of places England, Scotland and Wales where you just can’t get a signal. I was heading up the A16, & at the time there were two sat navs in the truck, one keep insisting every few minutes, for some miles for me to take a left turn , :open_mouth: :open_mouth: , there is nowt but a huge / massive wide deep ditch all along more or less the lenght of the road for quite some miles. On the way back neither would pick up the correct road around Peterborough either…I’ll stick with the truck map :sunglasses:
