I stand by my reasoning of THREE drivers per one truck around the clock.
Depends on the work you’re doing. We have runs that are 200 mile away with 4+ hour drives in each direction plus loading, hooking up/dropping off etc. Minimum 11 hours.
All of this ban trucks in London is simply not feasible! how would they going to get their 20 tonne generator and 4700 ltr diesel tank to the MOD offices ■■ or any of the steel work required to build all the building going on in the city atm?? It simply can’t be done by puddle jumpers so it will never happen. Imagine the cost of building some of the projects going on if all the transport was only done by 7.5t’s?? how many tippers a day are going into cross rail sites, Battersea power station, canary wharf. How many flat bed 7.5t’s would it take to get a tower crane to a site?? it just wouldn’t happen projects would take decades to complete.

probably all about money again, the congestion charge is bad enough for hauliers but if hgvs are banned and they need to get into London it will be OF COURSE YOU CAN COME INTO LONDON TO DELIVER,but you will have to pay such and such amount for a day permit which must be bought online or by phone, probably be around £30 quid a day knowing them thieving bxxxxxds

but that’ll just be incorporated into the delivery fees so Boris’ shiny tower’s he likes giving permission to build will cost even more to build which will put people off to a degree.
Who mentioned banning HGV from London?

Spot on, I think he’s a possibly dangerous man who is very clever. Hes cultivated this cuddly buffoon image, but make no mistake hes not. Hes a cold calculation politician that only done things to further his own self interests
What are his self-interests exactly?
Do robots dream of electric sheep?
When you’ve already got pots of money, are not a big hit with the girls, and already live in a nice house etc. What possible ambitions can a 50 year old have that have not already been achieved by being Mayor of London - which I understand is more lucrative personally than “being an MP” - even now!
For a lot of people money is nothing, they want power and a place in history. And that can me much more valuable than a fancy car and a nice house.

his ideology is somewhere to the right of Hitler and Attilla the Hun !
A very very scary man who puts over the image of a bumbling buffoon aided and abetted by the right wing press and media moguls him in charge would make Thatchers time seem like the garden of eden

only 5 posts above mine…

I’d support his proposal to ban goods vehicles outright from London…
I look forward to the time someone offers me £15ph to drive a puddle jumper - because of the shortage of goods in the capital that “no trucks” would cause!
…Just because London would need ten times the number of VANS to carry all the goods necassary into town - Where’s “ten times the number of drivers” - espcially at £7.50ph - that are going to rush forward to doing this job…?
…I mean now the ‘pick up and abuse a girlie’ perk loophole is on the verge of being closed and all…
It would seem that Boris also cares about out-of-town Londoners a lot too - look in any “minicab” sporting the TFL sticker on the back… The lack of whites would suggest that even our Eastern European gastarbeiter won’t stoop so low as to be a self-employed minicab driver for instance…
Yes I saw them, I just cannot see where boris said it in the original post.

Sounds very similar to farage and his pint & ■■■ routine to me.

To be fair a global warmist sceptic, anti EU,anti immigration,Capitalist Fordist Labour Party that doesn’t want to concrete over the south east with housing estates would be much more preferable. But it’s not there so who do those of us who want all that vote for.
As far as Boris Is concerned they should’ve left the ■■■■ hanging from that zip wire.
Watch the Andrew Marr interview with him on youtube a bloke called Eddie Mair stood in for Marr and as far as I’m concerned he tied Boris a new ■■■■■■■■, had him squirming in his seat. Just shows the bloke for what he is.

That’s what you use the 4x12 for rather than the 5x8’s.
Anyone working 11+ hour shifts for more than 4 days a week is barmy - the way I see it. Bending over to take a 55+ hour week where the sun don’t shine?
If I could get a 4x12, I’d consider going back to full time tomorrow - but at present, all the jobs only offer that on tramping, and in another thread I’ve stated that when TRAMPING you really need 3x15 hours when on intra-UK tramps… A 45 hour week over 3 days is quite enough for a full wage thanks very much.
This is the same Boris that presides over one of the most truck unfriendly areas in the country??
The existing drivers hours thing I am cool with, as stops tired drivers wiping out other road users and leaving carnage in their wake. The WTD I would personally dump tomorrow though, as that is truly a pointless piece of crud.

Everyone knows that Boris is a fully paid up member of the Cons not UKIP.
As for the EU hours regs that would depend on wether anyone believes that 15 hour days mixed with driving actually supposedly ‘stops’ knackered zombies driving into the back of stopped traffic etc etc.On the basis that 9 + hours per day driving is fine just so long as it’s mixed with 6 hours per day of ‘other work’ and a few breaks to keep the driver ‘alert’.
If you make the shifts too short, they won’t be worth commuting to. I’m already looking for £200+ per day for doing any London jobs, so ask yourself how easy is it to get that if, like me,
(a) you’re prepared to do a 15 hour shift, work nights/weekends/bank holidays
or not like me,
(b) if you only want a flat 8, 9-5 shift…
The latter is £25 per hour - and we’re not there yet - even in London!

It doesn’t matter if Boris is a signed-up member of the Vampire Protection Society - What’s important is if he’s prepared to form a coalition government with UKIP, when we already know Cameron would not. Boris shakes the hand of Farage, and hey presto! - He’s prime minister by tea time!
If I’m wrong of course, he’d say “Nah. I didn’t get a majority the same as (now ousted) Cameron. I therefore stand down, and I’ll let someone else have a go like Teresa May…”
Paradox Warning! - ^^^^^^^^^^^^ Does anyone honestly believe THIS ^^^^^^^^^ could ever happen?
He’d grab the chance to be PM - Even PM of a Con/Ukip coalition - by the balls, and get cracking on whatever his larger-picture game plan is.
It’ll always be a lot easier from Number 10 instead of Uxbridge Town Hall - That’s for sure!

£200 + per day equates to £ 1,000 + per 5 day week and assuming a reasonable driver’s wage there’s no way anyone should expect to to get that by calling for an hours regime that would allow anyone to even get close to it.IE hours regs are there to protect the public from drivers looking to earn more by working longer and employers who are looking for too many hours from too few drivers. It’s then just a case of where to draw the line and 15 hour shifts really isn’t it.

There is arguably a point where Farage would lose credibility by working with too many obviously pro EU Cons who are just trying to get ahead by pretending that they’ve suddenly changed sides.David Davis would probably have far more credibility in that regard,as leader of the Conservative side of a Conservative/UKIP coalition, than someone like Boris who has been shown to be one of Cameron’s closest cronies.Certainly from my point of view.I think the Cons are already well on their way to being wiped out in Western outer London and Surrey with the rejection of Boris Island airport in favour of expansion at Heathrow and Gatwick which was a Cameron driven foregone conclusion.Just like the Cons will be wiped out in those areas blighted by Cameron’s HS2 project.Make no mistake the Cons will be hammered in those areas which are some of their most important vote territory and it’s too late for the losers like Boris to jump ship now. With that plan for a so called ‘safe’ seat in Uxbridge maybe not looking so safe now and certainly not Richmond etc.
theweek.co.uk/politics/48809 … row-runway
Heathrow & Gatwick areas have too much work and not enough workers in the area. The wages are not high enough to warrant commuting in from places like Mid-Kent where I live.
The Boris/Frazer Island projects were actually WANTED by many of the local population (not the benefit claimers though!) because it is seen around here as a fantastic generator of jobs, and a quick way to double property prices in the region. It’s far enough away from NIMBYS in the weald as well, to be popular in the Tory strongholds of Kent too…
So what do we get? - Cameron & Co banging on about expanding heathrow/gatwick where there are staff shortages already… He clearly wasn’t listening. The general population in Heathrow area is very much Asian, with many of those being Labour voters. The local seats are held by Labour as well of course. Why on earth would Cameron want to make even more work that the local population cannot do, do not want, and leaving employers with permanent staff shortages, not to mention an increase in building and sky traffic in the short, medium and long terms? There just isn’t enough space in the area…
The southeast needs a brand new airport based on the Hong Kong model. Bugger the expense, the boost to the economy will recover it’s outlay far better than the olympic project has done!
The shortlist should be Boris Island in the Estuary proper, or Frazer Island - built on the Isle of Grain. Everything else is just a general engineering task which will take a while to complete… A lot more time and moneyworthy than HS2…
Farage won’t care if every one of Boris’ hand-picked Tory Cabinet membership were arch Europhiles - providing they throw the obvious bone to Farage of a in/out EU referendum straight away, with no “threats of higher taxes” from the “better in” camp, or any other threats come to that. We’ve already heard enough of Cleggy’s billy bull on this subject!
