Anyone ever been here? Whats the deal with it?
Went there for the first time today for my 45 and what an absolute dump. The whole place just has an air of eery desperation about it… pothole ravaged service yard, building on its last legs with water damage all over the ceiling, toilets a disgrace, filthy dark depressing shop. Awful.

Just been doing some Googling, and apparantly it is being refurbished but I could see no sign of it. Couldn’t wait for my 45 to end… I was the only person in the HGV parking in the middle of the afternoon, and I still felt the need to have my doors locked.
I noticed Red Rose HGV training using the car park to do some reversing manouveres… the fact they are renting out space to them shows First have given up on the place.
What did that services used to be called ? was one of those with a seperate drivers resturant iirc .

It used to be called ‘Anderton’. Half of it burned down the other week on the South bound side !!
Red Rose have used it for donkeys years, even when it was clean !!

Anderton, thanks for that. Been racking my brain(whats left of it) trying to remember the name .Havent been there for about 25 years and it was a pooh hole then.
These services where originally called ‘Anderton’ but that was back in the early 70’s not sure if they changed their name in the 80’s or not but do know that Peter Kay did a satire of them sometime recently 
think it included the ‘Chorley FM’ scenario but was more about the day to day life of the service area 
AFAIR it was a very funny serie’s, about 6 episodes in total and I also think it was before ‘Phoenix Nights’ so it didn’t really take off until ‘PN’s’ had become the winner it was. 
All that aside the the service area is a total ■■■■■ hole and has been for a long time

It came out top in a recent poll about the worst service area,s on our major motorway network.They are suposed to be in the process of knocking the place down and then rebuilding.
Its been in the same state as long as I’ve been a lorry driver - at least 18 years. Used to have a half decent drivers restaurant on the Manchester bound carriageway which was the only reason to stop there but they shut that a long time ago.

The services are now owned by euro garages of Darwin from what i have read in our paper they are spending a lot of money on the services. When i drove past last week they had started on the south bond side . And yes it is the services from the peter kay show
the money they are spending on the southbound side would be the insurance money they got after it burnt down.
The only way to refurbish that boghole is to raze the lot to the ground and start gain.

Went past today and the North bound parking was being ripped up so it is a ‘work in progress’…
You are right about the name Rivington thats what it was called after Anderton.Over on the hills you can see a monument which is Rivington Pike hence the name.It has also had 5 different owners in its time Kennings 1st Pavillion(Rank) 2nd Granada 3rd First 4th + the current owners.
I used to like it personally yes its a dump but i could always get parked up and it was nice and quiet with no one trying to sell me anything oh and the sarnies were cheap too

Noooo, I’d say Lymm & Knutsford, as well as that last one before the M25 on the SB M1 are far worse than Hilton Pk.
