Bogus Police

Would you stop for this car? Many people have done and for cars like it.

I was given some information that bogus police are targeting mobile phones and cigarettes being carried in courier vans and lorries. Basically anything high value, so Christmas drinks maybe on that shopping list.

Be honest, would you stop if it was a dark wet night, a blue light was flashing ahead and a bloke in a Hiviz said there had been an accident or a tree was down just past the houses ahead?

I asked our local plod and he said that 9/10 the stop vehicle would be a marked car, but there is always that chance, especially in a rural setting.

This picture was taken from inside the same vehicle which was discovered last year, but it is still a timely warning in the run up to Christmas.

Imagine been stopped by this vehicle if your first language was not English. What would you do in the same circumstances abroad, pay up or argue?

If you let yourself get pulled over by a vehicle like that, then you are an idiot!

I agree, Police cars usually tend to be no more than 6 to 8 years old. That car would have got me ringing 999 I think.

Agree.
Too old to be a pig car and most have the ‘roof bar’ type lights or at least more LED blue lights.
Saying that though, foreigners could be fooled, oh well.

This is an interesting one.

Some of you know the type of car I use for work, and last night I came across a vehicle (clapped out Saxo) with its boot open (2200hrs).

It was on my way home so I stuck with it as I knew the driver lives on my street (nearly ran me and my son over the other day).

So his rear passenger looks at my vehicle, a BMW 5 series with an amber light on the roof, grill lights, dashboard light etc and assumes its a police vehicle so makes off.

So I follow, immediately find the car abandoned and crashed in the street, with the rear passenger screaming she’s trapped, so I free her and she hangs around then bolts.

5 mins later driver comes back and tries to slink off in the car, however myself and about 20 locals chase him. Sadly we lost him but two males returned 30 mins later having swapped clothing.

The driver is identified and arrested, who admits it.

Result? No licence, insurance, mot, tax, TWOC. The keeper was the girl I freed. So he’s taken into custody.

Ok, im glad this did happen because it’s been a good end result, but all because a passenger/driver thought I was the police they bolted.

The cars I use for ab load escorts IS marked up and lit up as per the rule book but this shows how people jump to conclusions and why someone would be daft enough to stop for a Y reg corsa.

It is SO easy to purchase a blue light and the ‘microlink’ keypads are common on eBay. I use the larger ‘optilink’ keypad but thankfully the manufacturer will only sell to those that should have it and take full details of who purchases it.

To show the extent of the pictured car, they would have spend at least £300 on that amount of kit.

It was the only way to get them around a corner in one piece - great fun though, I had a 3000 GXL, lovely V6 in it :sunglasses:

My father had one and it was the 30L RS version. All i can say is it was quick

Honestly? No I wouldn’t stop for an old Corsa.

like wise, if it’s the 1.0 liter, a truck could out run it , but remember corsa’s are dangerous

When it snows badly as part of a voluntary group I use my Land Rover to take doctors and nurses to out of the way houses that they couldnt reach using non 4x4’s

Part of the contract with the doctors and nurses is we must have Green rotating beacons on the vehicle (they suppply them) in case of emergency. The Greens do not give anything , you must still obey all the normal rules of the road, they are merely a “courtesy” light , a request to let me go first if you like.

However despite my Discovery being close too 15 year old , and showing a few battle scars from off roading and green laning always amazes me how many people panic when they see the lights on top of the vehicle … (not even turned on)

On a dual carriageway doing 60mph they spot the lights and all sit behind in a long line rather than overtake what is obviously an ageing land Rover

I remember seeing a V12 XJS in Metropolitan Police colors that used to patrol the M25, :sunglasses: & even a dark blue Daf tractor unit in scotland that patroled the A75 :smiling_imp: I even got a ticket from a open top Porsh 911 in holland, probably becouse I was laughing so hard at them, they did not see the resemblance of the two in the cartoon “Wacky races” in white ankel lenth leather coats & orenge helmets in an open top sports car. I apologised profusly but couldnt stop laughing  But never a claped out Corsa :unamused:

can i have my corsa back please?

The offenders will use all sorts not just the Corsa

The thing I always wonder is what do they do once theyve pulled them over?!

I remember someone up here in a Nissan, asking people to walk in a line etc but these boys only had black t shirts on!

you cant get done for not stopping for an unmarked police car

Seen two uniformed police breatherlizing a woman , no sign of a marked vehicle with them, just a plain little ol’ runnabout car :open_mouth: . There’s loads of police all over the place around Cross hands & Ammanford areas over the last couple of weeks, sirens blareing very offen, & speeding off somewhere :unamused:

Anyone who stops for that should’ve gone to specsavers :grimacing:

But that is the point, you are not stopping for the car, you are stopping for the blue light and the “officer” in uniform, when you do, Big Ted and his mob drag you out of the cab and chain you up naked to a lamp post while they drive off with your lorry.

I asked what you would do if you saw the lights flashing ahead, and a guy in a hi viz asked you to wait a few minutes longer.

I was driving in France one day and an old imitation police Granada passed me. I crapped myself, I have also seen American NYPD cars in Holland.

I only used the Corsa picture because it was available on the internet.
