Bloody Crazy Artic Tipper Driver

russip, i will say sorry now if ive offended you and the job you do, and for being setreotypical of tipper drivers. reason why i so anti tipper drivers is ive been at the recieving end of a tipper drivers antics, resulting in him leaving the scene of the accident and me picking up bits of my mirror on the A49. then you get fools saying im jealous cause i dont speed round with my head up my behind really vexes me, that bloody idiot is a accident waiting to happen and if he carries on the way he is he will be living his ONE LIFE behind bars. tools like him shouldnt be allowed a tv licence never mind a hgv licence!

:imp: come on then what do you drive.? probably a 7.5 tonner whos never broken the law & never run bent

Listen mate, calm yourself down and wind your neck in a bit. Biggus has done more miles in reverse then you will ever do, as well as being a very well respected member on here!!!

I can understand your frustration cos I have done tipper driving myself, but the way you are going about things and hurling insults at other members is not going to do you any favours.

Its true that tipper drivers have a pretty bad rep. Whether its justified or not is hard for me to say as i am biased  But everyone i personally know thinks they are bad too. I don’t think its anything to do with them breaking the law or running bent as you mention because i don’t know any who do that. There bad rep is mainly to do with the inconsiderate and agressive driving. They don;t really have to worry about ‘shooting’ a load as such they just have to keep all their wheels on the ground. Mind you, some don’t keep all their wheels on the ground and about a year ago a scrap tipper ‘fell over’ as he was overtaking on a bend (M62/on to Queens drive), It killed a woman driver. The driver of the tipper…‘don;t really know why it went over, maybe it was top heavy’. He was aquitted of charges. Maybe its set a precedent in that we don;t have to ‘expect’ our load to do anything?
Maybe we’re all wrong and tipper drivers are actually carefull considerate drivers? Who knows?!!

Oh the old MORE MILES IN REVERSE line how droll I should think most of us have heard that from time to time but you still can’t get it into your thick skulls that were not all the same and its only a very small percentage of bad driving from tippers but you only remember the bad moments not the good. Theirs been a lot of general and box drivers come and go in our firm but not many stick it because most farms arnt made for 44t artics and you hear I cant get in here let alone back up to were they want to load you but weve been going in for years ,then they throw in the towel and are straight back to felix on the nice straight roads

No need for apologies,I agree with you up to a certain point. I actually work with someone who drives in the manner you`ve all described and he cuts up his own workmates just to be at the front of the pack in case he can get an extra load - he did it to me last week and then nearly took an axle off when he caught the weighbridge

Whereas myself on the other hand wind up my T.M. by driving at a safe pace and all I get from him is more loads-more loads to which i reply its my licence, see you tomorrow` and we have the same conversation day after day.

I dont really understand why people gamble with their licence and other peoples lives by trying for that one extra load - they might make an extra £50 a week more than me but that wont even cover the cost of a speeding ticket let alone the cost of their victims funeral

Whilst it’s true that many tripper drivers are idiots, we’re not all that bad. For the last 6 months I’ve mostly been on artic bulker work in the agricultural sector and personally I tend to drive at a steadier pace in a bulker than I would in a curtainsider cos I’m generally heavier and the centre of gravity is higher, plus I’m paid by the hour so there’s no real incentive to rush. As others have said too, it’s not a job for the newbie cos there aren’t many farms that were designed with 44t artics in mind. It’s good fun though, especially as happened this week when you’ve just watched another driver from your firm having to be towed up a steep gravelled farm drive by a tractor and then managed to just drive out yourself without even a hint of wheelspin

Paul

crispy sorry but the majority of tipper drivers are bad drivers, bosses will take on newbie drivers to mold them into how they want them to work, but thats the case in all types of work i know. glad you can get into farms where others cant, but your argument is daft you complain of us slagging of tipper drivers in general, then have a go at us making assumptions that weve never been near a farm. well i have mate deivering animal feed in a 44 tonne artic. i left not because of the small farms i went to, but because the wages where crap. i dont drive boxes though i have seen them delivering to some places where you wouldnt expect t get an 7.5 neve mind a artic!

Well it seems the cat is well amongst the pigeons, I will say that the areas I work in that there are a lot of tippers on the road and most of them drive professionally, it’s just an odd few (and the same odd few) that drive with excessive speed and aggressively, (I have no idea if they’re running bent and I make no assumptions), They don’t seem to make any allowance for something of a similar size to themselves coming round the bend and/or leave any margin of error. My biggest fear is an offside to offside collision.

I am far from being saint like but I feel I drive safely and at a speed appropriate for the road/conditions and importantly with an allowance for others minor errors.

I have the greatest respect for all other HGV drivers (even them in puddle jumpers) however this respect is a little dented (probably undeservedly so for the majority) for those on tippers, and I’ll even go as far as saying I’ll no longer be warning anyone of plod and his lidar gun in and around the peaks :frowning:

i agree with your response re “the more miles in reverse” quote its not one i would or have ever used apart from in jest.
talking of thick skulls get it into yours, tipper drivers are looked down because the majority of them are ignorant, dangerous, careless, or whatever other word you’d like to use.
some people dislike container drivers, some people dislike tautliner drivers, some people dislike trolly dollies, some people dislike rigids, some people dislike 7.5 tonners, but its almost a universal dislike of tippers, why?
oh and you carry on doing your farms with your huge 39’ maybe 40’ tipper, i’ll keep delivering to the same farms in my 45’ tautliner :sunglasses:

you attacked me questioning what i’ve driven and how i do it
