Bin lorry type cabs

All these safety measures and cyclists are still jumping under the wheels of trucks, buses, vans and cars.

Its quite obvious to see what the problem is.

The dutch think were all bloody idiots.

Smiths Bletchington have just taken an Econic on an extended demonstration. It’s a tridem and carries 19.5t with an insulated body. From what a couple of drivers have told me, it’s been quite impressive.

I like the look of the Vos logistics econic with the sleeper pod, plenty of room inside considering it’s not much higher than your standard artic

I like the look of that…

all about cyclist protection , but what about the truck driver involved in an accident when the cab collapses on him because it’s all glass and aluminium . oh , i forgot truck drivers don’t matter compared to the mighty cyclist . the lunatics ( boris ) have taken over the asylum .

And what benefits will a low level cab have on landfill sites? When they first came out on dustcarts, Viridor had to put in a tip off bay at Ardley and then dumper the waste to the tip area because the dustcarts couldn’t go off road.

Absolutely nothing low level would last 5 minutes on a landfill site. Viridors landfill at Pilsworth is the same. The binners tip off in the bottom bay and a Moxi tipper takes it up top. Vehicles driving off road NEED a high ground clearance for obvious reasons. Unless companies are going to invest in several types of vehicles to do the job that just one can do currently I can’t see it happening.

However the article reads that the low level cabs are designed for the urban enviroment and wouldn’t be suitable for all types of haulage. They may be suitable around town and certain building sites but other than that I wouldn’t worry too much about losing your 105 XF SuperSpace any time soon.

Was this taken in 1985?

No, but this was. Remember this?

Saw a Jeswson Econic yesterday, and Lenham Storage have one with a curtainsider :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Must be a demonstrator. I do believe Lenhams favourite word is “free”

Saw one of their motors pulling a green trailer today with some tree-hugging arse licking slogan on it, about C02 emissions. Needless to say I’d was coupled up to the scabbiest DAF CF unit I’ve seen in a very long time. Either a 56 or 58 plate.

Smoking it’s proverbial off

Reading this week’s commercial motor the editor had been to Holland which cyclist groups point to as some utopia.
There traffic planers were shocked at calls for buzzers linked to indicators side bars and low level cabs and think there not needed.
Mainly because the Dutch realise there vulnerable so cycle a cording not think there in the tour De France on the commute to work

The foreign cyclist also cycles to the law.
He doesn’t ride along the pavement and then swerve into the road or zoom through red lights then do his nut because some car hasn’t slammed on to let him have right of way.
There would be far less accidents over here if the coppers gripped some of the idiots on bikes instead of looking for easy targets in the truck and motorist communities.

Our new Terberg tugs have the bin style cabs on them it would appear more and more companies are adopting them.

I look at and think WOW, alright it’s spartan, but could easily be spec’d up. Just looks like a much better distribution of space between your living and work areas…

This is what happens when drivers blame ‘huge’ blindspots for everything. We brought this upon ourselves. The fact of the matter is drivers blamed blindspots to cover up bad driving and we’ll all be sat in greenhouses as a result
