Bin lorry type cabs

I have seen a CCF wagon with this tye of cab on the front and have seen the rival company, forget the name, red wagons.

I guessed it was just a London thing, haven’t seen any others

Won’t make any difference to all the “Fanny’s in Scannies”, they’ll still put Frilly Curtains up & only leave a 1 inch peephole out the side window. [emoji57]

I have read some where that these type cabs will be on all trucks in about eight years time.It is claimed it is for safety reasons, may be in my its me but I think there is no point ,the cabs we have now are ok why change

I can not think of the mag but I was in Volvo garage ,lots on table I stand corrected but I am sure it was bin type cabs, they were on about .

In Trucking mag this month, the Day Aggregates feature said they tried such a vehicle and weren’t impressed. The easy access cab caused ground clearance issues and the truck wasn’t powerful enough for site work.

Why is the econic so popular? Its a terrible cab compared to the dennis eagle 2. Uncomfortable seats, silly passenger door that seriously limits visibility, low drivers door which causes head injuries. Its awful for anyone of vaguely human shape

Malky80:

Can’t seemamy tipper firms wanting longer noses and wider, spacious cabs; Tare weights are heavy enough as they are since so many are so keen to appease Londoners with their FORS nonsense.

I like the look of the Vos logistics econic with the sleeper pod, plenty of room inside considering it’s not much higher than your standard artic

Never driven Merc but have driven elite mk1 and mk2 eats cabs to get in and great to drive every thing to hand on dash no reaching behind you for hand brake !
Only trouble I ad was taking the mirrors out on combi van of racks as they’re at just the right height

god I think I maybe coming round to them

We have one these and they are bloody awful to drive. They bounce round, noisy and have loads of blind spots.

surely all it needs are coach style mirrors where a driver can see all of the present blind spots…better than changing the whole bloody cab which isnt suitable…but anyway, its only a london proposal, and not nationwide at the moment.

Off topic but what is it with some drivers (not just Scania drivers) that pull the curtain halfway over the window? Not seen so much in Europe but in the UK it seems to be rife. Is it theyre embarassed re what theyre driving and like to cover their faces??

It is simply a concentration aid, as per blinkers on a horse, keeps the eyes on the road ahead and stops driver trying to get a glimpse of skirt in that overtaking merc.

I think it’s a ■■■■■■■■■■■■ Aid, behind that Frilly Curtain they’re busy pulling away. !

So the Fannys in Scannie numb nuts (that apparently find it difficult to keep their eyes on the road) with half the window covered are all w@nkers then?..

all about cyclist protection , but what about the truck driver involved in an accident when the cab collapses on him because it’s all glass and aluminium . oh , i forgot truck drivers don’t matter compared to the mighty cyclist . the lunatics ( boris ) have taken over the asylum .

And what benefits will a low level cab have on landfill sites? When they first came out on dustcarts, Viridor had to put in a tip off bay at Ardley and then dumper the waste to the tip area because the dustcarts couldn’t go off road.[/quotlo
Low cab bin lorries drive perfectly well on land fill they only don’t if they are rear steer or have a single on the third axle. The merc lorries have a button to higher the air suspension when on site.

I doubt most bin men have the intelligence to figure that button out. They move off as people are passing them. Hell they don’t even fully empty our bins, there’s always something left in it.
