Bin lorry crash in Glasgow

michaeloxley:
the crew was seen jumping from the bin lorry and holding there hands in there head in disbelief was the quote on the bbc

I’m guessing that was after the crash.

If I could hold by hands in my head I’d probably be in a state of disbelief as well.

There is a picture somewhere taken just after the lorry stopped with one of the crew getting out of the truck and another stood by the side of it with his head in his hands.

I’m pretty sure they didn’t bale when it was doing so called 50mph down the pavement!

never knew about it until I saw the papers and news today, six people dead and the same number inc the driver injured, and its allways just before Christmas these things happen,if the driver had a heart attack as is being suggested why could the two man crew with him not hit the parkbrake and slam the brakes on,if the driver survives he now has to live with the fact he killed six people,i feel really sorry for him as I do for the victims, very sad,RIP to the people who died

Yes, you’re right… if by “just before” you mean “the 12 months prior to”. :unamused:

As I feel a bit uncomfortable speculating while this event is still so raw and without stating the bleedin obvious again about how easy it is to do from the comfort of ones truck I shall await the facts as they come to light.

My thoughts for now are with the families and friends in this sad time.

+1

“People dying in pre-Christmas tragedy” is a standard mainstream media story, a bit like “prisoners get better Christmas dinner than pensioners”. It’s just what sells newspapers at this time of year.

Whilst I am a huge advocate of free speech and about as anti censor-ship as anyone can be im willing to bet there are families in Glasgow right now who fail to see the funny side of the “jokes” on twitter. Im also willing to bet that some of the posters who are defending “free speech” would have a vastly different opinion of the jokes had someone from their family been killed here
It needs to be remembered that right now there is a couple comprehending the loss of their 18mth old daughter and one of them has lost both parents in the blink of an eye,not to mention the others affected by this tragedy. Any idiot who thinks jokes are appropriate deserves all that is coming to them

She was 18 years old not months, doesn’t make it any less tragic though.

Indeed it does.

Any idiot who think jokes are appropriate deserves to be called a bit of a ■■■■■■, or even better ignored. Not arrested.

If I was a family member of the deceased the last thing i’d be doing right now is scrolling through Twitter to see what Joe Public has to say. I’d also probably appreciate it if media outlets didn’t give airtime to the idiots by talking about/quoting unsavoury things being said online :unamused:

^^ exactly
I’d have had no idea about this guy that was arrested for his twitter comments if he hadn’t been arrested!

I agree with what your saying but is it ok to put this stuff online just because the families probably wont read it? Plus the way social media is set up and intertwines then its only a matter of time before the “joke” appears in someones news feed.
But I get what some are saying. You cant censor things just because some might not find it funny. Freedom of spech comes at a price. You might not like what someone else says. But there has to be a line. And some people need to realise that posting anything you like online and not having any consequence is not acceptable.

Just been reading how the mother of the 18 year old, along with her grandparents, survived because she stopped to use a cashpoint…Christmas will never be the same again for many people in the Glasgow area

I suspect she will never use a cashpoint again. She will probably be thinking if she hadn’t stopped to use it the other three wouldn’t have been standing waiting for her and been hit and killed. One simple act we all do without even thinking about it and lives are changed forever. Very sad.

usually about a month before things like this happen, previous news history proves that

What was vehicle that size doing in city centre 2.30pm with obviously more than average pedestrians , an accident waiting to happen !.
