Thanks, so is it worth doing a change of career then?

Seems pretty low what you have quoted compared to some job sites I have seen. I am in scotland. Falkirk.

The job sites will largely be advertising agency positions so you’re not getting a true picture. In your area I think you’ll struggle to find full time PAYE class 1 work for more than £7.50/hr and maybe time 1.25 to 1.3 overtime if you’re lucky. Agency nearly always pays more because of the no-guarantees temporary aspect of the work so you’ll probably see some jobs being advertised at £9-10/hr but they won’t be full time positions, they’ll be agency and you’ll have to sign up to their in-house umbrella payment scam to even get those rates.

If you’re prepared to sleep in the wagon all week you could probably take home around £400-500/week (that is including your tax free night out allowance) but expect to be doing ~65hrs.

Its more a life style.

But if you dont mind agency work an will work hard. They are not all bad.

Im agency PAYE, garunteed income. Min pay 9 hours a day time an half when go over. And average Take home is 400-450 for a 50/55 hour week as class 2.

You’re down in the south of the country. He’s in Scotland. You might be doing alright on your average £10/hr top line and supposed garunteed [sic] income, but is that what the agency have told you or is it in writing? What usually happens with these “guaranteed income” schemes is when the work dies you off you find yourself on whatever other crappy jobs they can’t get anyone else to do, eg. white goods deliveries, removals, septic tankers etc and if you refuse to do it they bin you off and that’s the end of your income.

In writing. And they have a good rep. Look after thoose who work hard. Not had a day with out work or a really bad job. Be doing class 1 soon so be more options available trunking an viridor ejectors. But mostly do hiab over summer and coal or heating oil winter. Then random other stuff mixed in.

Here in the north east I get anything from £7.ph on CE really depends on which contract I am on

Fowler Welch regular drivers are on £7.75 ph IIRC

If you go into ASDA in Falkirk ask there drivers what the pay is but prob similar to above

As a general rule look for 4-500 take home per week to get this your most likely to be away all week doing 60-70 hrs per week and living in the truck Monday to Friday maybe getting home on a Saturday after noon and going out Sunday depending on when you got back

Few folks ever got rich driving a truck. You need to do it because you enjoy it and you want to do it - not just as a means of income. As said before, it’s a lifestyle. And, IMO, it’s far from all bad. You just wont get a new Bentley out of it.

Abramovich is so wealthy in fact he owns this!

sam, is it just the plane he owns or the mountain, if just the plane i"l stick where i am

It’s something I would like to do. I loved being in the army and the lifestyle and being away is not an issue. I just want to know that I will have an income every month which pays my house and has a bit left over to save up for a holiday each year for the family. That should be achievable from what I see out there, what do you think?

Cheers

I just want to know that I will have an income every month which pays my house and has a bit left over to save up for a holiday each year for the family.

Look around. I don’t see many full time drivers who are homeless and not having a holiday!

Then look around the truck car parks and see what some are driving. Not new Bentleys as a rule - but many have got half decent motors.

Just a very rough guide.

Asda drivers are on a minimum of £11.36 up to £14.50 for nights + a good overtime rate.
