We roped the wheels on the unit and the fron’t trailer axle, never had a mishap but we didn’t carry the motors like that very often .We used to deck m/t trailers regularly when we got a pulp ship in at Ellesmere,we used to send a shunter down and he had about half a dozen trailers to kick off with when the hatches opened then throughout the day we sent other motors in to change trailers, and then we sent night men in as well so the shunter had a dollop of m/t trailers to start again the following morning. It was like a military operation at times but it saved the Mill a lot dock charges because as long as the pulp didn’t “land on the floor” but went straight onto “wheels” the charges were minimal plus we had a decent rate for the job as well
Cheers Dennis.

one for you dennis,cheers benkku
Great drawing bma. but how come you’ve got the steering wheel on “the wrong side” We did run a “left ■■■■■■” on our Euro fleet,a 4x2 R380 wich used to stay over in Holland and Germany for 5 or 6 weeks at a time and only return for service and when Roger the driver wanted to change his “jockeys”
We sent him un-accompanied trailers and he stuck his loaded ones back on the Ferry.Cheers benkku,Dennis.

Now I will be truly “British” bma.,We drive on the “right side of the road” I know it is actually the “left side” but those countries that drive on the “right side” ( as in Finland ) actually drive on the “wrong side”,depending on how many Lagers you have drunk bma.will determine wether you may, or may not, understand my “cockeyed” logic,or not
But being British you will understand that we look at problems from a totally different perspective than the rest of the World,I will cite “Carryfast” as a perfect example of what I mean
Sorry to bore you bma.but we have to try,as British,to convert the rest of the World to our ways
What happened in Sweden all those years ago when they swapped from driving on the “right” side of the road to the “wrong” side, overnight ?
Cheers benkku,Dennis.
GCR2ERF:
How were you securing the piggy=backed artic Dennis - ropes or chains? I assume ratchet straps weren’t too common then?
This is how we used to bring new trailers down from the Task factory in ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ straight into the depot and later on straight to Bo-Alloy at Congleton.

We didn’t have a lot “dew” but IIRC and including the 1844 Mercs we probably had about 10 or 12 V8’s,it was a long time ago eh! Cheers Dennis.
