Beware southwaite services

Had my curtain cut again at southwaite services southbound lastnight,2nd time this year even though I always leave a door open to show it’s empty,I can’t have been the only one as the place was very busy, would love to be in the back of the trailer with a baseball bat as they poke there face through the cut,it might improve the inbreds looks.

It’s getting to the stage where we might have to open the curtains before bed

And you paid how much for the privilege of having the trailer damaged? MSA’s are an obvious focal point for thieves :open_mouth:

Dipper dave will be around later

Probably another lorry driver.

It would be sensible to pop the front of the curtains open too and leave the pole hanging out so they can see in

Ok in theory and right up to the point when the wind picks up and the flapping pole knocks the crap out of the truck parked beside you.

Oddly enough I’ve never had any bother, not even curtains cut in ■■■■■■■ and Scotland regardless of where I parked. Neither have I heard much from people about it happening. Yet you have this to say, and Tuesday I pulled into Hamilton and there was a curtainsider hat had been robbed.

Just wondering why you stopped there when there are so many other possible better places to stop in the area ? Especially if you’d been done there before . For me motorway services are the last place I’d ever park unless forced to as in going south around London m25 area when circumstances make it that way .

I leave luton at 5am tip Glasgow at 1pm then head back south,I normally make southwaite just inside 10 hours driving time at around 530pm,11 hours off and I get back to Luton about 10am to reload,I’ve never had any problems there until this year and prefer to park somewhere I can get a shower and use a toilet before starting work,in the 40 years I’ve been doing the job I’ve had my fair share of parking in dodgy lay-bys and industrial estates and having to find alternate uses for carrier bags.
The company pay for parking with a meal voucher and the vehicles are tracked and monitored,if I had a choice I wouldn’t do nights away but strangely we’ve had more curtains cut on the industrial estate in Luton where the company is.

I agree with Dan.
I can’t believe you actually make for that ■■■■ hole to park as a first option :open_mouth: , especially as you’ve already been turned over once, and especially when you’ve done the job a similar time to me…
(Also in that time I can not recall using a carrier bag other than filling it with food and drink, not sure I’d admit to it if I did either tbh. :unamused: )

If ever I’m doing a regular run in any area, I make it a first priority to find a regular good parking place near suitable (rather than crap) facilities, so lay bys are definitely a no no either.

There are at least half a dozen better places around there, some of which you can use the bog and shower on an evening, but what’s wrong with showering the night before? and heading to a bog a 5 mins drive away in the morning?

You sound like you’ve got a half decent gig mate, but not making the absolute best of it.

if only geoff/jeff bells was still the “entertainment” center it once was.

when you stopped there,it wasnt unusual to find yourself waking up in some tarts house and wondering if you were in annan, dumfries, carlisle,or wherever with seldom a recollection of how you got there, and if your unit was parked in her street…oh the cameradrie…

‘The Truck Inn’ was a favourite weekend night spot for locals, with live bands,…but a lot of dodgy clientele.
Never stayed there in the truck, too local, but I remember it well.

My mate parked last night at Southwaite services, he woke up this morning and as soon as he turned the lights on in his cab, had police questioning him about one of the EE lorries parked there, as poor fella had his curtains slashed

Ok, so here’s a revolutionary idea. :bulb:
If Southwaite is actually a truck crime hot spot, and so well known for it,…Instead of the Police turning up after the event, why don’t they…

wait for it…

Regularly patrol the area, and prevent crime, and/or even catch these scrotes. :open_mouth: :sunglasses:
Yeh I know, ■■■■ ridiculous idea. :unamused: .

I have been parked in there having a break early hours of morning and seen the traffic cops come in and drive around lorry park with spotlight on checking a couple of times in the past…
I only pop in for a 45 and use the bog but wouldn’t wanna be stopping there,it’s grim…

Ok, good on them, I take back what I said about it in that particular case.

For the amount of money Welcome Break, Moto etc. charge for parking on motorway services you’d think they could afford to at least employ a couple of security guards to walk around at night. If smaller truck stops can do it why can’t they? Fair play to the Police for having a look around every so often but they can’t be there all the time. Get some security cameras up too.

I dont know Rob. I parked in Reading a few weeks ago, with a rear door open, as you do. Got woken up at half past ■■■■■■■ one, by two cops, telling me that the door of the trailer was open, and they wanted to check if something had been stolen… :unamused: :imp: . Resisted the initial urge to tell them to go forth, and instead explained why we open a door at night… they looked really confused. I guess at least they made an effort.

(Yes, I did get them to sign my printout, and started a new 11 hour daily rest.)
