Love it! Go on plod, keep catching these morons any way you can.
I don’t have a problem with the aim, merely the method. Surely an unmarked minibus full of avid phone spotters would achieve the same results without the expense of hiring a double Decker?
Granted the view from a minibus wouldn’t be sufficient to see inside a lorry cab, but lorries aren’t the target here are they? Besides they already operate unmarked tractor units for that anyway.
Any low bridges in Poole and Bournemouth by any chance??

Yes, we do have one or two.

I don’t recall it being mentioned in the report that they hired a bus. In London police officers were allowed free travel on buses and tube trains at all times whether on duty or not. Other operators may well do the same with their buses, especially at pub closing times.
There are too many people driving around using mobiles phones with no thought for anyone else.

People are currently careful not to flip their phones out when passing things like speed cameras, junction cameras, etc.
I don’t see why police shouldn’t use some degree of “subterfuge” to catch all those people out who currently flaunt the law with “get arounds”…
If they’d thought it through a bit better, they could have adopted some currently downward-looking street carmeras to capture on video - those people who currently drop their phone either into their lap, or down by the gearstick to keep it out of eyeshot of any horizontal attempt by an unmanned camera, or passer-by “with authority” from catching the buggers bang-to-rights…
The authorities - seem to have failed meanwhile, in making “Use of a phone whilst driving” the antisocial CRIME that “DD/DR” already happens to be a long time since…
Disagree. Interacting with phone for 1 sec. (to skip song/annoying youtube ad or check time) is not the same as holding it to read/write texts, scroll through contacts, watching a movie etc. Although…there should be more ways to do that remotely - if you’re connected via bluetooth most radios you can skip ahead/back via the radio controls but if you’re using an AUX-in cable then you can’t and you have to use the phone screen; the DAF for example (stock radio) doesn’t play music over bluetooth, only phone calls.
Good idea!
■■■■ right! They’re all selfish people who think what they’re doing is more important.
most trucks / cars have hands free , yet drivers still pick up ? how stupid can you get ?. deserve all you get , idiots.
Good! We’ve recently started having cameras looking down to see if you’re using a phone or not wearing a seat belt. There were weeks of warnings before the fines started, yet morons are still being caught en mass for both. The fine for phone use is now around A$1,000.00. Keep it up.
My view (seeing as I was singled out in o/p) is this.
I first had a cab phone in 85, when they were a fixture so you had to hold them.so at that time and for about 10 or so years after, holding a phone was acceptable,.and those of us who had a brain and an ability to multi task (it’s a human trait and natural ability btw) managed just fine thanks.
But…as with everything else the minority of inept idiots who were born incapable could not manage,.so people were injured and worse…so the idiots set the new parameters,.so talkng on the phone non hands free was banned.
That and the combination of views of ‘experts’, set off the usual British public way of…‘‘It must be right because the experts say it is’’ ,.and the ramming it down our necks in a Goebbles esque type of way, worked a treat with said public to ‘‘prove’’ the points (as usual) …just like Covid theories on BOTH sides of the coin as an example.
Don’t bother trying to convince me with.‘‘facts’’ and links,.as it’s been done to death on here.
So basically, bearing that in mind, these days I never use a phone hand held,.not because I believe the hype, but because I have no desire to be nicked.
As for texting whilst driving…different ball game as you are constantly looking at your phone and your mind is off the ball, so I do see that point.
But the Old Bill again …they have took full advantage of this to make a bit of extra cash (yeh I know, I’m even boring myself banging on about it) by policing laws that have moved the goal posts, now you can’t even TOUCH your phone,
you can not put on a track to listen to music on the phone,.so a zero tolerance.k non discretionary blanket ban just like everything else is dealt with in the UK.
Now if I get one of those new abomination Actros, it has a touch screen exactly the same as a phone, to work even the radio.
So if my phone in the cradle is adjacent to said screen, I can use the screen, but not move my fingers 2 inches to do same on my phone…so draw your own conclusions.
But to sum up the making calls thing whilst driving, anybody who holds a phone to their ear, and knows the score is an idiot,…when you see the number of hands free systems out there,.so no sympathy from me.
As for Police tactics on this and usual priorities…not even going there., as no doubt Monkey boy will be along soon as soon as the word ‘‘Police’’ flags up in his psyche.

The was an “expert” on TV a few weeks back saying the world was running out of water. Surely that is proof that they spout rubbish on any subject.

^^^^ that must be commonplace and not rare at all. How else are the clouds gonna fill up their tanks?

I assumed they just paid their bus fare and got on.
Surely they haven’t hired a bus.
There’s an Artic unit, I think Highways Agency (it whatever) owns and rents to police to monitor the motorways. Surely bus fare is cheaper than that!

Agency drivers get the truck without a working radio!

That’s not true is it? If your phone is in a fixed cradle, you can still use it all you want.
