I thought that was a BSA Goldstar
For me it has to be a TS3 followed by a Hummin ■■■■■■■
My Grandads old A-series ERF with an 8 pot 240 gardner on a cold morning…
And loved the sound of the Rolls Royce eagle in my old 325 Roadtrain… A chemical company where i tipped once in manchester just off the M56 & M60 used to have an old scammell routeman shunter, ex Barrets of Delph, that sounded meaty with its 220 rolls in it…
Definatly the Scania V8. The 143 470 was the the best one for me. always sounded nice and crisp, not as muffled as the 500.
Commer Maxiload with a TS3.
AEC Mandater V8.
Foden two stroke.
What about the Bedfords? I think they were TM’s with the detroit 2 stroke in them, they had a nice sound.
Scania V8 everytime for me, next the 240 gardner (what a sweet sound) and the commer ts3 2 stroke, although this was not popular with my Gran ! I would go past her bungalow 3-4 times a day shunting trailers, she would always be in the garden shaking her fist at me because of the noise and the smoke, I told her it kept the greenfly down
oops,double post

The Scanias are in a class of their own! I’d forgot about the ■■■■■■■ V8 and I did many miles in a D1000 yes they sure were smooth but I would still place the V behind the straight 6 ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■
Hello there,
My favourite engine sound was a Leyland 680. - We had them in our Scammell Handyman and Routman.
But the Leyland Beaver - ECY 218C was the best. – Regards - Hywel.

12 litre ■■■■■■■■ certainly (more impressive, somehow, than the 14 litre) and the lovely smooth 8LXB. but also the 680 Leyland with a lovely throaty growl.
hiya,
Did a short spell of daywork for J and E transport way back in the early 1960s drove on occasion a Commer two stroke now that did sound well for a little 'un.
thanks harry long retired.
Don’t laugh, but a V8 Iveco 480bhp always sounded good to me. Detroit engined Bedford TM, my old merc 350bhp V8 sounded nice, although some would say it sounded like a sack of spanners. Anything with a good turbo whistle, but I think any V8 under load sounds great.
Regards,
Mark.
