I would call that “wilful” revman, very!!!,what a trick to pull!!! I suppose I deserved the "wind up"but when the “forensic” experts on the thread confirmed it as a Seddon I took my tin hat off!!! They didn’t build many of those at Seddon.I wonder who built the most—Seddon or Guy■■? Cheers Dennis

Gardner 120:
I know it’s not an engine but I also loved the noise the Bedford TK brake/clutch made - virtually impossible to write it on here but those that know it, know what I’m on about

I can hear that ‘tweet’ now

It appears in the Porridge movie when they escape during the footy match in the boot of the old Bedford 6 wheeler coach - when he’s parking there’s a couple of ‘tweets’

Gardner 120:
Gardner 180 in a 1968 ERF 6 wheeler for me - deep, slow rumble and nice n warm in the winter sat next to that bonnet as an 11 year old. Bit of a drawback in the summer though eh …

know just what you had a noise all of there own

On one particular day in my youth I would have loved to have heard that sound of some one hitting the brake in a TK. Unfortunately for me there was no one in this truck that the driver had just parked in the yard on the bloody useless transmission brake, it rolled away silently down the yard, I had my back to it as I got out of a weatherhill loading shovel, never heard a sound and it crushed me against a fence.Nobody else in the yard I was trapped for 30 mins or so. I was very lucky to escape with my life and since then I have never been a big fan of TK’s !!!

Hope you were no worse for the accident Trev!!! Dennis.

Sorry to hear that mate. Glad you survived, sorry to bring back bad memories.

I used to sit in the TK that my uncles had and press the brake pedal just to hear it - they would shout, “Oi don’t let all the air out!”

One day, 12 years old I started her up (like a pratt) and she shot backwards (in gear d’oh) and I slammed the anchors on and shut her off about a thousandth of an inch from the ERF parked behind. No one was any the wiser and when my heart came back from 200 beats a minute I popped off to change my y-fronts …

Hi Dennis, I was lucky and got away with broken bones in my wrist and forearm, I should have gone back for operations on it but never bothered. Only problem I have is pain in my wrist on long distance runs on the bike.
Strange sound those TK servo’s made.

On best sounding engines, I used to like to hear the comet 90 (nicknamed the whistler) ticking over in the yard, when it hunted it whistled,a reliable old truck but many a driver came back in the yard white faced after having the brakes fade .

Hiya Trev, old war wounds!! they come back to haunt you alright! I broke my left arm close to the wrist a number of years ago,and I’ll tell you this,I can usually tell by the twinges I get when its going to rain!!!Cheers Dennis.

I see that Mercedes are finishing with their V engines for euro 6 - another nice sounding engine bites the dust :frowning:

I didn`t know Mercedes made a straight engine

The V8 Mack engine in the AE500 Renault, you turned your music off when you got to the hills, lovely noise.

I had to listen to this 6BT again and again :stuck_out_tongue:

Have a particular passion for the growl of the V8 Perkins in a Dodge K series, and Ford D series.

I close my eyes and hear the sound coming in the distance!!!

There’ll be some drivers on here that were only too glad to hear the engine, whatever it was, fire up in a morning when they were on a dodgy or off route.

I’ve run both V8 ■■■■■■■ and Perkins engines and without a doubt the ■■■■■■■ was by far the smoothest running and better sounding of the two.The Perkins always seemed to “hunt” on tickover where the ■■■■■■■ had a nice easy purr! The reason,of course, was the two different injection systems, the ■■■■■■■ being their “Pressure Time” system and the Perkins having the normal injector pump system.I’d hasten to add that we had excellent service out of both types of engine though! cheers Bewick.
